Aon’s HappyTails: @oolongmilkytea

I have a husky. He is turning 6 next year so we are an existing policyholder of AON Happy Tails insurance because we feel like it’s really important to be protected in today’s economy.

Q: How do you care for the wellness of your pet, especially if they are prone to any hereditary illness?

Aside from making sure he has a healthy diet and going for regular medical check-ups, we also bought insurance because we have heard so many horror stories of people having to choose between financial obligations and saving their pets.

Operation costs going well over five digits are a reality, so we want to make sure we are protected at all times.

What were your consideration / buying process like when shopping around for a pet insurance?

We definitely want to look at the cost and weigh the pros and cons.

If I expect my dog to be sick in the next four to five years, how much would it be if I otherwise save the annual premium? The other one is definitely in terms of social proof – are people talking about this? Are there positive reviews? What does it cover under its policies?

What eventually made you decide to get insured with Aon Happy Tail?

I think that, because Aon is a huge company, we feel it’s very credible and assured that it won’t be a scam. The other is that we have many friends around us who Aon Happy Tail insures, and they have successfully filed their claims. So it is a good company to stay protected.

How is the entire buying process like? How long did the entire process took?

It’s actually super fast. They do it via the platform. It’s self-serve: after I enter all the information about my pet, they will let me know the annual premium amount, and I need to print the health declaration form and make a payment. There was also a representative who followed up when I didn’t get back to them regarding the form. So I thought that was excellent customer service

Has anything changed (mentally) after getting your pet insured?

Just in general peace of mind knowing that he is protected, and if anything were to happen then, I do not need to choose between “Could I afford this?” vs “Can I save my dog?”

Why do you think people are not ready to commit to a pet insurance?

Pet insurance is a very new concept that has only become popular in recent years. There may not be enough case studies or testimonials from people who successfully managed to claim a large sum, or who saved a lot of money by not buying insurance otherwise.

It’s definitely on the rise; more and more people are coming to understand the benefits of pet insurance. It will become extremely common for every pet to have its own insurance policy.

Any suggestion or advice to people who are still shopping around or considering pet insurance?

Read online reviews, speak to insurance agents who represent that specific company. Really work through the math, and does it make sense?

I feel like if you have a dog that is prone to illnesses like hip dysplasia, skin issues, or even Chow Chows that are prone to cherry eye, it’s a given that you should definitely buy health insurance. Because it’s almost guaranteed that your dog will eventually fall sick as they get older, just like humans.
