As you can tell, there is only one testicle in the picture.
Neutering will require your dog to be under general anaesthesia, and even though this is generally safe, there are still risks and complications to every surgery.
Neutering EARLY / at the wrong age / when your puppies’ hormones still have a role to play in his developing body can increase the risk of hip & joint issues. Your puppies’ hormones help them to develop their bones and joints properly. Therefore, puppies may be more vulnerable to hip dysplasia, torn ligaments and bone cancer if neutered at the wrong age.
Neutering increases the risk of obesity as the reduction in hormones will change the dog’s metabolism and hormonal make-up. Daily walks, exercise and monitoring their diet is extremely important to maintain a dog’s healthy weight after neutering.
Cryptorchid dogs are much more likely to develop testicular cancer in the undescended testicle. It is estimated to be at least 8-10 times more likely to develop cancer – according to our Vet.
Cryptorchid dogs have a risk of testicular torsion. Since the testicle is “freely moving” in his body instead of being secured at the right position (his scrotum), there is a chance where his undescended testicle can twist on itself or other surrounding organs – a super painful experience if it really happens.
Most dogs reach sexual maturity at 6-9 months. Generally, dogs reach full growth potential at 12-18 months. Hoshi is now at 16 months and I have noticed he stopped growing in size at around 10 months old. I decided to do it now and not at 18 months because this is my term break from school and I am able to take the time to hawkeye him after the surgery and really monitor him. Hence, we decided to do the procedure at this time when I have the time and I am rather confident that the removal of his hormones will not affect his growth that much. (We have also consulted the vet regarding this as well)

What would I have done differently?
Brushing him daily
I definitely would have started brushing Hoshi every single day. This is because the cone wearing 24/7 has definitely caused some fur around the ears area to be matted. Previously, the longest time Hoshi was wearing the cone was for only 8-10 hours throughout the night and morning, so I did not notice any matted fur. I definitely would recommend brushing them if your dogs are long-coated or double-coated.
If I could and have the time, I would have waited for him to reach 18 months.
I am still a strong believer that dogs would need their hormones in their growth. If I had the time and option, I would love to be able to wait till he is 18 months or even 24 months. However, to avoid any complications from potential testicular torsion (as Hoshi is an extremely active dog), and to do this procedure during our break this is the best time for us.
Teaching him to lie on his back
This would definitely come in handy when I need to check his wounds, clean them and apply the healing balm. Hoshi doesn’t like to be on his back, hence we pick him up to do these instead. If I had the time, I would probably train him to be comfortable being on his back, or even better to do it on command.

@promisethedoggie: What inspired you to start this business?
I started my photography journey as a wedding photographer when I was 18. I truly enjoy photographing my clients and it means so much to me that they’d entrust me to capture their big day. However, as most wedding ceremonies are often held over the weekends, it meant that taking more jobs = burning away my weekends.
After meeting my life partner and having our dogs, weekends are so much more precious to me. I started to think of ways that I can still do what I am passionate about, while at the same time spending time with my loved ones. Thus, the idea of a studio came to life! People and animals are the inspiration for the name of our studio – KINU, a mashup of KIN (relationships) + INU (dogs).
Indeed, the photos produced at Studio Kinu do bring out the best in our relationships. In fact, they appear to carry a strong aura of nostalgia and family. Perhaps it is the bright cool-toned temperature of their pictures that appear as though it has been pulled out of your memory or all too familiar sofa sets that you can find in your grandparent’s home; Studio Kinu’s photoshoots emphasise on capturing the smiles you share with the people you love.

Before the photoshoot, we usually communicate with the owners to let their pets pee and poop before coming up. We take some time to let the pets familiarise themselves with us, and when the photoshoot starts, we have squeakers and treats to help capture the attention of your pet!
Our mini sessions are the perfect trial packages for anyone who is keen to try out studio photoshoots! It is a short 20 mins session, perfect for those with young babies or a family with grandparents and daddies that aren’t as keen to be in photos.

According to IMDA, up to 10 pax can appear in a photo unmasked and the studio can have up to 15 pax.

In lieu of the recent pandemic, many of our recent graduates are unable to attend live ceremonies to celebrate their achievements. What is your main concern when it comes to providing for Lexi? (in terms of food etc)
Lexi truly enjoys eating all kinds of food! However, it is always reassuring to know that food or supplements are well-liked by her before committing or purchasing the full-sized product.
For grooming and cleaning products, it is important for us to check their effectiveness of it for Lexi’s current needs. My family has a really sensitive nose so the products have to be well-scented. We would also like to ensure she has no allergic reactions to the product.
Lastly, being more budget-conscious, I would only be willing to pay knowing that a product is really good for my dog. It also reduces wastage since you only buy products that you have confidence in!
How did you hear about Pawjourr’s Sampling system?
I was first introduced to Pawjourr through Instagram stories by various pet owners. They had just expanded their product redemptions from 3 to 5 items and had released a full-size sample product! Samples are a great way to get to know your dog’s needs or wants. These can be exemplified by the incidents below.
Incident 1
We were looking for a new kibble to let Lexi try, and my mum was eyeing the Absolute Holistic Vegan Diet with Oats and Peas. For a dog who loves all kinds of food, this was the first time she outright rejected the kibble on its own. She would only begrudgingly eat the kibble when mixed with her other food. We were thankful that we did not commit to buying it!
Incident 2
With the release of supplements, it gave Lexi a chance to try all types ranging from chews, soft gels, powdered and tablets. Some tablets were too large and she simply would not swallow it even when mixed with food. For the smaller tablets, she could only eat it when hidden into her meals. After that experience, I would only purchase supplements in soft chew form.

Through the positive and not-so-positive experiences, sampling allows pet owners to understand their dog’s likes and dislikes. It allows us as owners to make the best decision for them when purchasing new products.

Lexi really enjoyed the wet topper provided in the sample! When Pawjourr finally released the full-sized product on their Shopee shop, we decided to get a different kind under their limited ingredients series (lamb/turkey). It is individually packed to mix up your dog’s meals!
Chuku’s Kitchen Fresh Food
Eco-friendly packaging, customized meals based on each pup’s nutritional requirements, fresh and delicious fuss-free meals for your dog. Bought one subscription to help with Lexi’s post-spay healing. She was jumping like a kangaroo by the end of it!

A soap-free quick rinse-off formula that is similar to castile soap. It works great after walks or for weekly freshening up (especially during hot weather seasons) without drying out your dog’s hair.
NaturVet Tear Stain Supplement
I like supplements which look like treats since Lexi is extremely food motivated. Since trying the product, her tears will still occur (it’s not a miracle worker). However, we clean her eyes at least twice a day after meals and it prevents the staining.

The air-conditioned 2-level cafe is designed to best accommodate you and your pups. While dining in, you can even enjoy a great view from the cafe’s second floor. Plus, the cafe’s stylish use of metal hardware and wood provides a cozy urban chic interior that will definitely feature nicely in any social media post.
Most notably, their feature wall is an excellent photo-taking spot for your dogs. Uplift and cheer up your pet’s mood by having them “fly”!
Unfortunately, due to Phase 2, TWO X FOUR is no longer accepting dine-ins. However, they are now offering their services through deliveries and takeaways! They have retained most of their original menu, making sure to provide options for both humans and dogs. We took a look at some of their enticing offerings. Do give them a try!
For the human menu: They are offering their Chef’s special Fish and Chips ($14.90), along with Creamy Carbonara ($12.90), Ah Long’s Chick ‘n’ Chop ($13.90) and Seafood Aglio Olio ($14.90). Do take note that this list is not exhaustive.
We were most impressed with their Seafood Aglio Olio which featured two large mussels, squid rings and prawns. We could barely see our noodles amidst all that seafood-y goodness.
Their creamy carbonara is a sight to behold, as well as a feast for your stomachs.
The items on their menu are relatively inexpensive. All range less than $20, making them an excellent choice for the days when you feel like splurging, yet desire to eat luxuriously. As a special treat, they are also offering 20% off all food items and 10% off all drinks from 19 May to 13 June.
That’s not all! As a dog-friendly restaurant, they have also worked hard to provide a menu for dogs. Our office doggos, Dexter and Oolong, were given a chance to try their scrumptious variety.
We received their Bobby’s Signature Meatballs 5pcs ($5.90), Daisy’s Signature Meatballs 5pcs ($5.90) and Shepherd’s Pie 180g ($6.50). You can view the full list of ingredients and menu items down below. Each item of the menu has been accessed and made suitable for your furkids to enjoy!
The presentation and look of these doggy meals had Dexter and Oolong drooling with anticipation.
Bobby’s Signature Meatballs is made out of grass-fed ground beef, plain and all-natural yoghurt, egg and flour. Each meatball was perfectly portioned into bite-sized pieces that were easy for Oolong to consume.

On the other hand, Dexter opted to try the Shepherd’s Pie which is made out of sweet potato, pumpkin, carrot, broccoli and ground pork.
For their doggy meals, you can also opt to add in coconut oil or honey for that extra Oomph!
