Finding the ‘best’ cat litter – Part 2

Remember our review 6 months ago? We have some updated reviews!

We use to say that Kit Cat Snow Peas was our favourite litter, however, something about it must have changed! πŸ™ When we first used the litter, odour control was good, clumping was good and no ammonia smell. As time passed, the smell got worst and the clumping tightness was greatly reduced.

Following which, we decided it was time to change litter boxes and swop to another brand – Jolly Cat Crushed Tofu Litter. Though there were some things that we did not like such as the tracking, we made the switch because Jolly Cat Crushed Tofu Litter has proven its great odour control, clumping is good and easy to scoop and best thing is that it does not stick to the base of the litter box, making it super mess free when clearing.

Many a times, we would get questions like, really so good? But the tracking…. So what did we tell people?

First of all we would tell people the good stuff, because after tirelessly trying so many brands of litter (i think we tried at least 15-20) and different kinds like tofu, bentonite, corn and pine, Jolly Cat has proven its worth – both price and functionality wise.

When it comes to reducing tracking, what we did was to change out litter boxes to either covered or those higher ones where the cats would have to jump in and out of.

We are currently using CatIdea Cat Ear and Iris Top Entry Litter Boxes. With this we realised that tracking has reduced significantly. To further ensure that tracking was kept to the minimal, we used a litter trapping mat πŸ™‚

Our favourite scent

Amongst the 4 scents, we have so far tried Original, Sakura and Lavender. Our top choice – Lavender!

@_meowtales is back with another cat litter review! This time featuring Jolly Cat

Not only does it not have any ammonia smell when we clean up or after the cats pee, it musks so well that when in a confined room, we would not even know that the cats has pooped as there was no foul smell! The room would also have zero odour be it pee or poo!

If you have not tried Jolly Cat, we recommend that you should and just ignore the fact about tracking cause you are going to love the other benefits that it brings to your household! πŸ™‚

Flea-Flea Go Away with Tasty Bravecto Chews!

Flea and ticks thrive in warmer climate hence the humid weather of Singapore increases the vulnerability of our pets. If left unattended, flea and ticks can cause serious health problems such as tick-borne illnesses and allergic reactions. Not to mention, the constant aggravating itch that your pets will endure.

Bravecto recently formulated an oral chew for dogs, that targets most fleas and ticks. A single chew provides you with up to 12 weeks of protection! During which, the chew promises to eradicate pests such as the brown dog tick, American dog tick and even the lone star tick.

It also addresses other ailments such as ear mites, sarcoptic mange and Demodex mites. Bravecto also kills newly emerged fleas before they lay eggs. Thus, breaking the flea life cycle.

Their long-lasting coverage also breaks the average monthly medication cycle – Say goodbye to monthly purchases and/or medication reminders! With their Bravecto Chews, paw-rents can kick back and relax as the chew works its magic.

Not forgetting that this tasty chew makes it easy to feed. You no longer have to worry about forcing your pets to stay still while you apply topical ointments onto their fur.

Bravecto Chews disguises medication in a delectable coating making it a treat your dogs would be eager to consume.

Check out what our pet owners had to say!:

Super fuss-free and easy to feed even for picky eaters like Eurus!

Instagram @babyeuruschan

It worked so well with Toto, and I can also administer it less frequently than other monthly treatment options. ??

Instagram @Toto_thedoodle

I am a Bravecto super fan! I’ve been using Bravecto for almost 3 years now and I’ve never had a single tick spotted on me before – serious, not kidding. Bravecto is fast, easy and lasting as it kills active fleas and ticks within 12 hours.

Instagram @Yuri_thecorgi

A few attractive benefits stand out:

  • Easier to administer than topical ointments
  • Effectively kills all fleas and ticks (within 8-12 hours of consumption!)
  • Lighter on the wallet – long-lasting protection means fewer dosages = less medication required!

Bravecto owes part of its success to its active ingredient – fluralaner. When a chew is consumed, fluralaner is dispersed throughout your pet’s body hence killing all fleas and ticks upon contact. Not to worry, the substance itself is safe to consume. However, it may be wise to check with your veterinarian if your pet is suitable for the product before switching over to Bravecto chew.

I Tried out Naturvet Tear Stains Supplements for a Week! – Suitable for Cats and Dogs

Redeem Naturvet Tear Stains supplements at Pawjourr.com

What are Tear Stains?

Tear Stains are dark brown or reddish marks that can appear under your pet’s eyes. It can affect both dogs and cats and are usually more prominent on animals with light coloured fur. According to Dogtime, Epiphora, a condition that comes from excessive tear production or the inability to properly drain tears, is usually the source of the stains.

My cat, Sir Nicky, is an exotic shorthair cat who requires regular grooming on account of his tear stains. His tear ducts generate a brownish discharge after a nap, which tends to stick to his fur resulting in stains.

This is how he looks on the daily (without grooming). As you can see, there is discharge most prominently seen in the inner corner of his eyes. For discharge located near his eyelids, it is difficult to clean without irritating him.

This is him after heavy grooming. As you can tell, the stains still remain after cleaning, and a new discharge has already occurred.

Naturvet Tear Stains Supplement for Cats and Dogs

For his comfort (and my ease), I decided to try out Naturvet Tear Stains supplement. These specially formulated soft chews are aimed at reducing unsightly tear stains from the inside out. It supposedly assists our pet’s immune system and lubricates mucous membranes to reduce discharge. One tub consists of 70 chews, which should last an average user around 30 days.

My cat weighs an average of 4 kilograms, so I followed the instructions carefully. For an animal his size, it is recommended that they take 1 chew a day, til visible improvement is noted. Afterwards, continue to use after an additional 30 days, to hone in the supplement’s effectiveness.

On the tub’s cover, a sticker notes it as Veterinary approved and recommended.

The soft chew itself is brown, with a rather crumbly residue. It remains solid when picked up and is roughly the size of my fingernail.

I wasn’t so sure if he would take well to these supplements hence I decided to mix them into his regular food. Sir Nicky is fed a regular diet of Schesir wet canned food and Wishbone kibble. The chew itself is easy to crumble. He finished his meal without any issue, indicating that the addition of the supplements did not bother him or was tasty to eat!

Our Weekly Trial

The next day I checked out his discharge in the morning.

Not sure if I could note any visible improvements yet I decided to continually feed him the supplements for a week.

At one point, I tried to mix things up and feed him the chew on its own. Though he responded well to it, I think he found the chew’s soft texture rather hard to grip with his teeth. The result? Crumbs scattered all over on my freshly mopped floors.

Unless your pet would be able to chew and grip the supplement on their own, I’d recommend crumbling it up into their daily meals for a cleaner and fuss-free feeding experience!

5th day after eating supplements. The discharge has improved slightly. I also noticed that throughout the day, he has little or no discharge. I found myself needed to clean him a lot less.

However, I did note that Sir Nicky began to lose interest in the supplements midway through the week. In order to convince him to eat it, I covered the supplement in his favourite cream-based snack. For dog owners, I’d recommend finding something similar– perhaps some dog-friendly peanut butter, if it is suitable for your pet.

After a week of supplements, here is how he looked:

Yes, this is the same cat!

(Apologies for the over-exposure in the 2nd picture, Sir Nicky isn’t the most compliant paw-del)

Most notable improvements

  • Daily discharge is runnier and easier to clean
  • Fewer stains on his fur
  • Discharge is greatly reduced throughout the day

Overall Thoughts

In conclusion, I think the product does work. I definitely saw improvements after only a week of use. Though Sir Nicky grew to dislike it after some time, I think that might just be a matter of personal preference. It wasn’t difficult for me to mask the supplement in other tastier snacks he enjoyed in order to convince him to eat it.

I am most impressed by the product’s ability to reduce tear stain discharge throughout the day. Though he would still accumulate some discharge overnight, the reduced amount of tears throughout the day helped time as I no longer had to groom him as frequently. Plus, it also kept him looking handsome and clean all day long!

What is your main concern when it comes to providing for Lexi? (in terms of food etc)

Lexi truly enjoys eating all kinds of food! However, it is always reassuring to know that food or supplements are well-liked by her before committing or purchasing the full-sized product.

For grooming and cleaning products, it is important for us to check their effectiveness of it for Lexi’s current needs. My family has a really sensitive nose so the products have to be well-scented. We would also like to ensure she has no allergic reactions to the product.

Lastly, being more budget-conscious, I would only be willing to pay knowing that a product is really good for my dog. It also reduces wastage since you only buy products that you have confidence in!

How did you hear about Pawjourr’s Sampling system?

I was first introduced to Pawjourr through Instagram stories by various pet owners. They had just expanded their product redemptions from 3 to 5 items and had released a full-size sample product! After seeing several more stories about Pawjourr, it led me to sign up for their Pawjourr+ membership to give it a try.

How was the redemption process like?

It has been really simple and smooth since the beginning! The website is easily accessible on your phone or laptop, and you’d be spoilt for choice with the number of samples available! Each sample would include the ingredients used, where you could buy it and reviews from past user redemptions.

With a flat delivery fee, the item usually arrives at my doorstep within a few days.

Just for fun, I also did a 1-minute cart out challenge for Pawjourr’s sampling redemption! My record is currently at 40 seconds!

Double click to watch their 1-minute cart out challenge!

Awesome! We are impressed at the speed of your check out. What kind of Samples have you redeemed thus far?

We have redeemed all kinds of samples through Pawjourr – wet canned food, kibbles, dental chews, pee pad, waste bags, food toppers, single-ingredient treats, supplements, grooming and cleaning essentials.

What appeals to you most about Pawjourr’s samples?

The sample sizes always come in ample quantities and are well-sealed! Even when it is repackaged, the team at Pawjourr labels it clearly.

There have been a few brands that have given wonderful full-sized products such as JJ E-Homes Pee Pad Pack, Chuku’s Kitchen, The Grateful Dog Ready Meals and OneV.

Treats are always Lexi’s favourites!

lexi.the.spitz

Samples are a great way to get to know your dog’s needs or wants. These can be exemplified by the incidents below.

Incident 1

We were looking for a new kibble to let Lexi try, and my mum was eyeing the Absolute Holistic Vegan Diet with Oats and Peas. For a dog who loves all kinds of food, this was the first time she outright rejected the kibble on its own. She would only begrudgingly eat the kibble when mixed with her other food. We were thankful that we did not commit to buying it!

Incident 2

With the release of supplements, it gave Lexi a chance to try all types ranging from chews, soft gels, powdered and tablets. Some tablets were too large and she simply would not swallow it even when mixed with food. For the smaller tablets, she could only eat it when hidden into her meals. After that experience, I would only purchase supplements in soft chew form.

Lexi’s supplement collection so far!

Through the positive and not-so-positive experiences, sampling allows pet owners to understand their dog’s likes and dislikes. It allows us as owners to make the best decision for them when purchasing new products.

Do you recommend sampling from Pawjourr? Why or why not?

We highly recommend everyone to try sampling from Pawjourr as it can benefit all kinds of pet owners! Whether you are just curious and would like to try more doggy products, or considering purchasing an item but aren’t sure whether your dog would like it – Pawjourr sampling helps resolve it!

Personally, it has been a lot of fun trying out different products, writing reviews and taking photos and videos of Lexi! It gives me a reason to spend time with her and capture precious moments. She definitely enjoys the fruits of her labour (aka. treats) too!

Since being with Pawjourr’s sampling programme, it has helped me to understand Lexi’s likes and dislikes. It introduced me as a first-time dog owner to the huge variety of products available to dogs! Most importantly, the products purchased after trying them through Pawjourr’s sampling programme are those that I have full confidence in. Say goodbye to buyer’s remorse! πŸ˜‰

Have you since re-purchased any of the samples?

Yes, we have found a few brands or products that we enjoyed! There are many other samples the hooman would like to re-purchase, but it takes some time for one dog to go through her food and treats.

Here is the list of samples we eventually purchased:

Earthbath Oatmeal and Aloe Conditioner

The smell is really lovely, and Lexi kept sniffing it. The effects were immediately soft fur! As a bonus, the price is incredibly reasonable for a good amount.

Pet Natural’s of Vermont Daily Probiotic

I fell in love with the cute bone-like shape! I was honestly kind of disappointed when the full-size product from iHerb came in a rectangular shape instead. It has a stronger smell because it’s duck flavoured. Love how it has pre-and probiotics in one tiny chew!

Instinct Grain-free Wet Topper

Lexi really enjoyed the wet topper provided in the sample! When Pawjourr finally released the full-sized product on their Shopee shop, we decided to get a different kind under their limited ingredients series (lamb/turkey). It is individually packed to mix up your dog’s meals!

Chuku’s Kitchen Fresh Food

Eco-friendly packaging, customized meals based on each pup’s nutritional requirements, fresh and delicious fuss-free meals for your dog. Bought one subscription to help with Lexi’s post-spay healing. She was jumping like a kangaroo by the end of it!

Doggiebalm

Though the price-point is a little much for this hooman, I got these at a great deal during their clearance promotion. My favourite must-have item from Doggiebalm is the Natural Coconut Shampoo and Conditioner!

Natural Cologne Spritz

It left a great smell on my dog and clothes for a few days. Great to cover-up the β€œdog” smell or to freshen up in-between baths.

100% Natural Leave-in Conditioner

Bought it to assist during brushing sessions, as it helps to detangle her fur.

Natural Coconut Shampoo and Conditioner

A soap-free quick rinse-off formula that is similar to castile soap. It works great after walks or for weekly freshening up (especially during hot weather seasons) without drying out your dog’s hair.

NaturVet Tear Stain Supplement

I like supplements which look like treats since Lexi is extremely food motivated. Since trying the product, her tears will still occur (it’s not a miracle worker). However, we clean her eyes at least twice a day after meals and it prevents the staining.

Brands pup-proved by Milky (Part 1)

Who is guilty of buying a tad too much when it comes to their furkids? Definitely me ?

I love to shop for Milky, but sometimes it seems to me that there are only that few vendors whom I can buy stuff for him – mainly those who enjoy high visibility on Instagram. I always wondered if there’s a way for us to dig the hidden gems (amongst the many, many on Instagram).

So here are some of the hidden gems I’ve unearthed through my times on Instagram (I will try notttt to mention the well-known ones), and just in time for Christmas! ?

1. Cakki.co

  • Website: https://cakkicollective.com/
  • Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/cakki.co/
Source: https://cakkicollective.com

Cakki Collective is a boutique brand from Philippines which specialises in rope leashes, bandanas + more. ⁣ Their products are handmade & carefully curated⁣ with love.

Their bandanas range between S$6 – 15, depending on the size you are looking at.

Milky sporting this new bandana from Cakki

What I love about this brand

  • Obviously very much in love for their Instagram aesthetic and game
  • Super friendly and nice business owner
  • Handmade and their designs are really nice

I guess the only con is that since they are based overseas, I have to gather or consolidate orders before the worldwide shipping fee makes sense.

2. Truffleruffel Treats

  • Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/truffleruffel_treats
Source: https://www.instagram.com/p/CGRWhCsDi5M/

I came to know about this home-based store only because the owner is an influencer under our network. We worked with them for some campaigns and she very kindly gifted us some free samples to try!

Just look at the greedy face!

Pawjourr organised a Secret Santa gift exchange this year, and I would be sending some of her treats to my Santee! ? We also featured her bone broth recipe on The Woof Agency’s Instagram earlier this year and the effort is ?!! You can buy them bone broth at a super affordable price too

Source: https://www.instagram.com/p/CC0VgT_jVKo/

▫️24 cubes – 295-310g @ $6.50
▫️28 cubes – 355g-370g @$7.50

You can check out how she boil the bone broth here!

3. Husse Singapore

  • Website: https://www.husse.sg/
  • Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/hussesg/
Source: https://www.instagram.com/p/CGSAAV2nM7Z/

Husse is a new brand which entered the Singapore market late 2019. They hail from Sweden and pride themselves in high quality pet food, specialising in not just dog & cats, but also horses! ?

Milky loves his Taste of the wild, so we won’t be talking about their kibbles range. Instead, we are a huge huge fan of their Laxolja (also known as salmon oil ?).

This is Milky a month after being on their salmon oil.

We sprinkle the salmon oil over his food and he gobbles them up like a cookie monster. It makes the entire meal looks much appetising and there’s definitely an improvement on his coat condition which is visible to the eye.

We have been on this product for the past 3 – 6 months and we highly recommend pawrents out there to consider trying it! ?

They are having a Christmas promo bundle now; 2 for $42 (UP $56)

I’ve also gifted other friends some of their other products, including their Vermi Tab (dewormer for dogs).

Pro Tip: Check out their tagged photos for discount codes from their ambassadors! ??

4. Instinct Pet Food

  • Website: https://www.lazada.sg/shop/instinct-pet-food-official-store/
  • Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/instinctpetfood_asia/
Source: https://www.instagram.com/p/CDOaf02DcYY/

I think Instinct Pet Food has been around for quite some time, but only became aggressive with their sales recently in Singapore. They are part of the Nature’s variety group – and the ladies who work there are so so so nice!

Source: https://www.instagram.com/p/CC8eq-CjOdG/

To be honest, there is a very low chance of us converting to 100% raw for Milky as we are not very confident about the food handling (though we have been tempted a few times by the benefits and The Dog Chef on Tik Tok).

So Instinct Pet is one of the brands we try to play around with the idea but with freeze dried nuggets etc. I’m very confident about the quality of their food and I’ve never heard anything about worms / weevils in their food vs. some other brands I see on Instagram. ?

I spoke to the owners before and I know how strict they are with the end-to-end (source of ingredients -> final product). But okay, it is on the expensive side since Milky is a big dog and eats quite a bit.

For the wet food, we alternate between their wet pouches and Bronco pate. As for the raw toppers, it’s really when he is being a good boy (but now we know he is okay with them and won’t “laosai”.

Everyone in the company actually love their products so much that we decided to bring them in and sell on our shopee! We only sell in bundles since Shopee has a lot of restriction around the shipping fees.

You can buy here: https://shopee.sg/pawjourr

5. Kin+Kind Singapore

  • Website: https://www.howlisticlife.com/kin-kind
  • Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/kinandkind_singapore/

We got to know about Kin+Kind pet supplements through the sampling program offered by Pawjourr.

Pawjourr has a sampling program where pet owners pay $4.90 per month to check-out unlimited samples to try. In exchange, leave a review to help other pet owners make an informed choice.

They are also adding in more verticals like groomers, clinics, trainers etc. It is positioned to be the one-stop pet parenting app to make pet ownership easier, cheaper & much more convenient! ❀️

Source: https://www.instagram.com/p/CHhI20eDjbW/

The pet supplements include:

+ Urinary Tract support: Free sample here!

+ Multi-vitamins: Free sample here!

+ Hip & Joint support: Free sample here!

Source: https://www.instagram.com/p/CH2W2-YD_Vi/

Check out #Whatsinmybowl flex with Milky! Special guest appearance by Clear Dog Treats (Shark cartilage powder) which you can find here, which I am obsessed with as well.

I hope this has been helpful to pet owners out there looking for some new websites or brands to stalk! ?

I think some of the brands here are pretty well-known already in the pets community, but there are a few other supplements which you can try and buy via Amazon.sg!

If you are like me and love finding new brands and products for your furkids to try, you should definitely give Pawjourr+ a go! ?

A Mincer that Actually Workers: Taobao Recommendations

Hey Raw Feeders and Home Cooked Food owners, HEADS UP!

In the past 2 years that I’ve used the mincer, I’ve gotten many questions on the mincer I use, so let’s just one shot answer all the questions that you have!

Also, this mincer does not only mince meat and bones. You can use it to make sausages for yourself or your pet. But most importantly, you can also purchase the meat slicer component to slice or cube the meat if your pet does not want only minced food.

This is a looooong post, so please bear with me and skip to whatever is necessary for you.

To prevent having to read through everything, you can skip to the necessary pages here
About the mincer I bought and what can it mince: Page 1
Buying the mincer (Standard combo): Page 2
Buying the mincer (Customsing components): Page 3
Slicing/Cubing the meat: Page 4
Shipping from China to Singapore: Page 5

About the Mincer I Bought

Cost of mincer: Β₯950
Shipping fee: Β₯180*
Total charges: Β₯1130 (approx $226)

* Please note that recent shipping rates are much much higher due to a shortage of containers. See page 5 for more information.

The combo I purchased is ε₯—逐三 (combo 3), and it comes with three sizes of cutting die and a sausage maker kit. The material that I chose is stainless steel for extra durability. I’ve used the mincer for 2 years and it is still functioning well.

What can it Mince?

Meat? Of course!
Chicken/duck neck? Yes.
Chicken/duck feet? Yes.
Chicken/duck carcass? Yes, but you need to cut it into smaller pieces first, which I found to be too much work, so never again.
Pork bone? No.

Simply put, you can only mince boneless meat and poultry bones. The only thing I will say you have to take note of is tendons because if the tendon is very long, it does not get minced up and ends up getting caught in the machine, which will cause it to stop. So if you are mincing tendons, I suggest mixing it with other meats to make your life easier.

Now, for some satisfying (yet kinda gross) ASMR of our past mincing videos.

Duck neck goes down quickly

My number one regret: Trying to mince a whole duck. It was too much work chopping the duck into smaller pieces, so I honestly do not recommend doing it because it is really tiring, unless you have a big meat cleaver to first hack the carcass into smaller pieces. But, the mincer can indeed mince a whole duck carcass.

More mincing, and honestly minced organs always looks horrible dripping from the mincer

And when you mincer them into a big bowl, it looks like ice kachang haha!

Make your meal prep easier!

[Product Review] Mira-Pet Ultrasound Toothbrush

Our goob boys and goob girls embarked on a 3-week journey to test out the Mira-Pet Ultrasound Toothbrush. Read till the end to enjoy a special deal!

@taroiskaypo

The set consists of:

  • The Mira-Pet Dog Toothbrush
  • 2x Single-sided Brush Heads
  • 1x Double-sided Brush Heads
  • Dog Toothpaste (specially formulated for dogs and ultrasound)
  • USB Charging Cable
  • 2-year Warranty

The product promises to effectively remove tartar with the Ultrasound technology and destroy bacteria deep in the gums. It also keeps your dog’s teeth in great shape minimizing the need of visiting the vet for dental procedures such as removing tartar under the use of anesthesia. You can now save on dental anesthesia!

Let’s see what our goob doggos have to say about the product
@chai_thesingaporespecial

The ultrasound function is really interesting – by pressing the main button twice, the doggo-friendly silent and vibration-free mode is turned on. If it works well, I can imagine that expensive and stressful trips to the vet can be avoided in the future. I usually hate brushing my teeth, and usually clench while it’s happening.

@chai_thesingaporespecial
@gemmathepomsky

Initially thought it would feel like the human type electric toothbrush but it’s nothing like it. No strong vibration or noise.

It’s gentle ultrasound produces, helps in tartar removal.

The toothpaste that comes with the set smells amazing! Gemma breath will definitely improve from now.

@gemmathepomsky
@taroiskaypo

It is soooo easy to use! Just turn on the ultrasound and hold it against your furkidβ€˜s teeth. Compared to manual brushing, there is much less struggle and discomfort!

More importantly, you can see visible results even though we only used it for around 3 weeks.

Easy to clean, disinfect and maintain. We just wash it under running tap water with the ultrasound on to disinfect.

@taroiskaypo
@lokithetoast

It’s really easy to use! Despite it being bulkier than our usual toothbrush, it’s something we are willing to accept due to its features. With a complementing toothpaste which works effectively with the ultrasound technology, we will definitely be using this for long.

@lokithetoast

Not convinced? Check out these amazing results!

@taroiskaypo

At the end of 3 weeks, Taro enjoyed significant improvements. With reduce in plaque, he can now flash his pearly white smiles in photos! Isn’t it just amazing! And that means a lesser need to go for dental scaling which can cost a bomb in the long run.

@orithespitz

Despite using the device wrongly for the first week, Ori still had some amazing improvements with whiter teeth! Brown stains were visibly lightened in just a short period of time.

@chai_thesingaporespecial

In just one week, Chai had such noticeable improvements! The dark plaque near the gumline is lessened while the stains on his teeth are reduced.

As seen, the Mira-Pet Ultrasound Toothbrush is a great one-time investment for tartar removal and teeth cleaning. The product is on sale at about SGD370 on Amazon. However, The Woof Agency is holding a groupbuy where pet owners, groomers and vets can get them at a special rate of SGD300 per set! This price includes shipping, taxes as well as delivery to you.

Fill up the order form here to be part of the group buy! We will drop you a message regarding the payment.

Finding the “best” cat litter

Many parents would ask which cat litter is the best. It is hard to tell which is the best as each and every household is different and everyone also views things differently. Cats themselves as well have different personalities while each cat parent looks for different features.

Cat litter is something that runs out fast in our household. With 8, many people would think we spend most of our money on food, however, I think we have spent more money on cat litter in fact! With many brands out there that offers almost similar features, which is the best brand to go for? Living with 8 furballs, we often question ourselves which is the best brand. We have tried almost every kind of litter, ranging from pine wood, soya/tofu litter, paper, sand/clay, cane and to the recent snow peas. After trying so many, we honestly have not found the best brand, but rather the kind that works for us. Here’s what we have tried so far and what we think about them! πŸ™‚

When we first got Ninja, we were not prepared as we had zero experience with cats. Ninja our first rescue joined our family with an injured paw from her stray days. We did not think of keeping her as we were inexperienced, we only wanted to help heal her. However with the injury she had, Ninja needed to be confined indoors and I guess her injury was a blessing in disguise to her and our family!

Cat’s Best Original Litter

With no experience, we decided to go to PLC to get food, bowls and cat litter. We were introduced to Cat’s Best Original Litter (100% made from renewable plant fiber). Having only 1 cat at that point in time, this litter worked the best. The odour control was good and clumps well, covering the two most important thing many owners look out for. However this litter was not the most value for money option and had a musky smell after a few days. We continued to use this litter even when Minnie and her kittens joined our family. However, we realised that the litter consumption was not worth the money spent and with more litter boxes around, it started to affect the smell of the house and rooms.

Kit Cat Soya Clump Litter

Being more experienced with cats and knowing more of other products, we decided to change to Kit Cat Soya Clump Litter. By far this brand and range has been used the longest, even till today we are still using it! Kit Cat soya litter has great clumping properties and is flushable! In terms of odour control, it really depends on which scent you choose.

We started off with Green Tea, the odour control was good, however we realised that despite adding fresh litter, there would an ammonia smell coming from the litter even though we clean the litter boxes thoroughly. We have also tried scents such as Original, Charcoal, Lavender, ,Confetti and Baby Powder. Amongst all, we like the Baby Powder scent best! It really musks the odour and does not change the smell of the room which we have encountered from other scents.

Kit Cat Classic Clumps Litter

Other than Soya Clumps from Kit Cat, we also tried the Classic Clumps series to compare as we were still on the hunt for something that was value for money. Though it is value for money, the amount of dust was significant more than Soya Clumps and the scooping of litter was not as easy as it often sticks to the bottom of the litter box, increasing the work needed for cleaning.

In between using Kit Cat Soya Clumps, we had to source for yet another kind of litter as one of our cats, Snowy, developed an allergy, not sure if it was from food or litter, she had pus on her nail beds and soya litters were not helping her recovery. That was when we had to turn to paper litter till she recovered. Paper litter did not really work for us as its clumping properties as well as odour control were not as good as compared to soya. The only benefit that helped us was that the litter was flushable and does not stick to Snowy’s paws. However this could be different from brand to brand as we only tried 1 brand.

Soya litter being one of our top choices, we explored different brands as well. We tried brands such as Aastas Cat, Nurture Pro and even Jolly Cat crushed tofu litter.

Aatas Cat Cat Litter

Here’s what we like and not like about these brands. For Aatas Cat there is minimal tracking, clumps well, flushable but the odour control needs to be better. This could be due to the scent that we tried as we have not explored the other scents. We also encountered the problem of the litter having an ammonia smell once the litter is not “fresh” anymore after less than a week so we did not further explore the other scents.

Nurture Pro Cat Litter

Nurture Pro (Corn)/ – it also had minimal tracking, clumps well, flushable and odour control was slightly better as compared to Aatas Cat Peppermint scent. We did not explore other scents as we also faced the same issue on the ammonia scent, however it was not as strong as compared to other litters that we had the same issue with.

Jolly Cat Crushed Tofu Litter

Jolly Cat Crushed Tofu Litter (Lavender) – This is by far one of the best litter in terms of odour control as well as usage rate. We can definitely see that clumps are stronger and smaller, resulting in lesser litter used per cat. However, one major downside of this litter is the amount of tracking. As this litter is much more finer as compared to other litters, tracking is high. Despite having a covered litter box and a trapping matt, the mess is still there. However, I have seen others that use Toyogo boxes instead to counter this problem! So for those who have space, can explore this brand with Toyogo boxes or any litter box that is fully covered and tall.

World’s Best Cat Litter

We also got a chance to try World’s Best Cat Litter as it was a gift from a giveaway. This litter has good odour control but tracking was high for our cats. Our cats do flick their litter a lot, so for litter boxes that did not have covers, the mess was bad. Though this litter clumps fast, we felt that the clumps do not hold well, if it is not cleared quick enough, the clumps break apart, resulting in parts of clumps at various places in the litter box if another cat were to use one after another.

Unicharm Deo-Toilet

Unicharm Deo-Toilet – This is rather more of the whole system rather than just the litter itself. A little background about this toilet system, Unicharm Deo-Toilet consists of the litter as well as a pee pad. A unique feature about their litter is that it does not absorb your cat’s pee but rather lets it flow down to be absorbed by the pee pad.

Unicharm uses a unique pee pad that is thicker than ordinary pee pads which allows you to use one pee pad for a few days. What we like about this system is that the odour control is good, value for money as litter disposal is low and is easy to clean – Pee is absorbed by the pee pad and picking out cat poop is easy as the pallet size of the litter is relatively bigger as compared to other litters. There is minimal noise as well when cats use the litter box. We have changed our litter box in the master bedroom to this system, and i must say, we have more undisrupted sleep from the sound of cats using the litter box. However, we felt that households that have 1 or maximum 2 cats would see the benefits as well as cost saving of this system.

Cat’s Best Comfort Litter

Some of you may have seen our review on Cat’s Best Comfort Range. When we first tried this, we felt that it was very different from what we normally use cause first off, this range is not a clumping range. More suited for families that only have 1 cat cause for us, we really need to use clumping litter as our cats share litter boxes. This litter has great odour control, gentle on paws, but there is a significant amount of tracking. This litter would be more suited for those who have kittens or cats that are new to using cat litters due to its non-clumping features. When we first got Leo, we weren’t sure if he knew how to use a litter box so this litter came in handy before transiting him to the normal litter we use for the rest.

Kit Cat Snow Peas

One of the latest cat litters, Kit Cat Snow Peas, is our favourite cat litter! It has good odour control, clumps fast and well resulting in smaller clumps, minimal dust and definitely value for money. With smaller clumps, the amount of litter used is lesser. We could see the difference when using snow peas as compared to soya litter, litter consumption was lesser, one bag of snow peas could last longer than one bag of soya litter. However, as this litter is relatively light, tracking is visible but can be reduced with covered litter boxes and a litter trapping matt.

Eco Cane Cat Litter

Thanks to The Woof Agency and Pawjourr, we got to try out Eco Cane Cat Litter! We would be doing a more detailed review on our Instagram soon! This litter is definitely value for money when compared to its price per day. We have used this litter for about 5 days now, it has good odour control as well as clumping. However, as this litter is quite fine and small, tracking is high and gets stuck between our cats’ paws.

Being spoilt with many brands and choices, it is definitely hard to just stick with one brand of litter. We would always want to try and explore more options whenever possible. I guess it all comes down to what features we humans want and which litter can suite our cats best πŸ™‚

We are currently using Kit Cat Baby Powder Soya Clumps as well as Kit Cat Snow Peas (almost every scent cause we are still exploring which is our favourite scent!) What are you using? πŸ™‚ Let us know if the comments and why you think it is the best for your kitties πŸ™‚

So… That’s about it! Hope we did not bore you hehe! Hope every owner can find your “best” litter.

Review of Nylabones from a landshark

I have a puppy who is about 20 weeks now. Overall, Donut (my pup) has lost about 8 teeth, and currently, she is still busy biting everything that’s insight. We’ve bought her KONGs which I did a review of here. We’ve also heard good things about Nylabones so we gave some of those toys a try as well.

Find my landshark’s review of Nylabones below:

Nylabone Flexible Chew:

Nylabone Flexible Dental Dog Chew
Taken from Nylabone Website

We fondly call this Donut’s blue bone. It is one of her more durable toys. This toy has lasted us about 18 weeks now and it is still going strong. The knobs are all intact though she seems to have lost interest, we spice things up by adding some treats in between the knobs in order for her to love it again. I love the durability and it’s semi-soft meaning it’s gentle on puppy’s gums.

Rating 10/10

Nylabone Pro Action (Bacon Flavor):

Taken from Walmart’s website

Similar to the blue bone above, my pup donut loves this bacon bone. It seems to be good for cleaning her teeth thanks to the rough ridges. However, the only comment I have for the product would be that it may be too hard. The bone is solid and I do worry sometimes that it may break my puppy’s teeth. This bone is made for extreme chewers but even extreme chewers can break their teeth.

Rating 8/10

Nylabone Power Chew Textured:

Taken from Walmart’s website

I was perfectly happy with the durability of the first two bones so this purchase left me sorely disappointed. My then 1.3KG puppy was able to destroy and bite off the plastic in a matter of minutes. We no longer let her use it because we fear she’ll ingest the plastic. I regret buying this and it’s really a wasted purchase that really only lasted us an hour.

Rating: 1/10

Nylabone Antler Alternative:

Taken from Walmart’s website

I’ve read mixed reviews about letting dogs eat deer antlers so I was glad I came across Nylabone’s antler alternative. I was pleased with this purchase, like the blue bone, it material was not too hard but was still durable. It’s one of my puppy’s favorite toys and has constantly used it during her teething phase. After a few weeks of having it, it now shows a bit of wear and tear but that’s okay, I’ll be purchasing another one soon!

Rating: 9/10

Nylabone Pacifier:

Taken from Walmart’s website

This toy was also made of durable and gentle material for puppies but I would only give it a 50% success rate. My puppy enjoys the blue pacifier while she barely touches the pink one. I think the pink pacifier is too big for her mouth so I am observing to see if she learns to like it the larger she gets.

Rating: 5/10

Nylabone Puppy Teething Rings:

Taken from Nylabone’s website

This by far is her favorite toy. Every time we place it on her pen or on the floor she is just ready to play with it. After about 2 weeks of playing with it daily, the texture of the toy turned a bit rough but she still thoroughly enjoys it. We had to get another set because she just wouldn’t stop playing with it even if it was worn down. The teething rings have certainly saved our hands from her teeth.

Rating 10/10

My rabbit’s favorite toys that I recommend you to try

Toys your bun can play with based on my personal experience

Ever wondered how intelligent your furry friends with long ears are? Well, they are actually more intelligent than you think. Rabbits have about the same IQ as the average cat or dog, and given their IQ, they need constant mental and physical stimulation with toys and plenty of exercise. It is important to change toys every once in a while so that they do not get bored. Just like us humans, rabbits will get bored very easily if they were made to eat the same foods, do the same things or play with the same exact toys everyday without a change in routine.

Here are a few of the toys that we have that may actually be useful for your little furry one. πŸ˜‰

1. Ball of Apple Twigs from RHQ

https://www.instagram.com/p/CEGuY6jDAIV/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

We got this toy for her about one month ago from RHQ Rabbit Headquarters. The ball is made of apple twigs that is safe to consume for rabbits. Just like any other bunny, Whiskers likes to chew on stuff, so this ball would be perfect for her. Since rabbit teeth are constantly growing just like our nails, they need to chew on something to prevent their teeth from overgrowing to the point that they become too long for them to eat anything.

Any chew toy should be made safe to eat for bunnies, and this ball manages to kill two birds with one stone by being both a chew toy for her to use her teeth on and a consumable product made with delicious apple twigs that she can feast on whenever she’s hungry. This can help to keep her busy while we’re at work so we don’t have to worry about her not being occupied with something. Since it’s a consumable product, it will run out once your rabbit has ate all of it and you will have to replace it with a new one. The ball can undo itself easily so you will need to pick up the pieces when it happens.

Pros:
– Made of natural edible material
– Allows them to play and eat healthily

Cons:
– Untangles itself easily due to weak material used, forcing you to clean up the mess whenever it occurs
– Not an infinite object – will run out once your bun consumes all of it and you will have to get a new one

2. Dangling wooden toy

The wooden toy hanging in Whiskers’ cage after the string broke and we have to fix it

Bunnies like to chew on anything, especially if it’s made of wood. Chewing not only prevents their teeth from overgrowing but it is also therapeutic for the bunny’s soul, just like hitting a punching bag is therapeutic for a human’s soul. If you have a lot of wooden furniture at home that you do not wish for your bunny to chew on, then this wooden toy should serve as an alternative to wooden furniture for them.

This toy is made entirely out of wood, attached to a string that connects it to a wooden hook to hang it on the ceiling of the cage. It is perfect for little critters who just can’t help but find wood to chew on. The toy stimulates them mentally so that they will not get bored, but the string is so brittle that it will break when your bun pulls it too hard.

We got this toy for her since she always likes to run into the master bedroom where most of the furniture is made of wood and we’ve had enough of her chewing on the wooden tables, walls, and any furniture from our living room that is made of wood. We thought that this toy would keep her from chewing other stuff so we got this for her. We also got this as an alternative to a small wooden log that we got for her before since she chewed only a small portion of that log and got bored of it that she resorted back to chewing our wooden furniture.

The wooden toy was hanging in her cage for two years until one day, in a fit of rage, she pulled it down, breaking the string that held it up. She probably got bored of it for being in her cage for two years. We had to put it back together since the string broke. Right now, it is still hanging up there in her cage but as a decoration rather than as a chew toy. She hardly ever touches it again since right now there are other toys that she prefers to this and her body is too obese for her to lift up her front legs to reach it.

Pros:
– Made of wood so it is good material for chewing and relieving stress
– Keeps rabbit entertained when left in the cage for hours

Cons:
– String is too weak. Will break if rabbit pulls it too hard
– Design is too simple and rabbit will grow bored of it after a few months.
– Some rabbits may not be able to reach the toy if it’s placed too high up

3. Toilet paper roll

https://www.instagram.com/tv/CBpKcX3DX0w/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link
The cardboard tube is her favorite toy now

Do you know that toilet paper rolls are actually safe to consume for rabbits? It can also serve as a chew toy!

Toilet paper rolls are made of cardboard material that is safe to ingest for rabbits and satisfying for them to chew on. To make it even better, you should stuff some hay and other smaller snacks into the cardboard tube to add more variety to his/her diet. Make it more challenging by stuffing the hay in tightly and hide the tube with food in one place for extra difficulty πŸ˜‰

Likewise, cardboard boxes are also a good toy for them and safe to consume. You can take pieces of cardboard and put them together to make a little house! πŸ˜‰ You can cut square holes in the cardboard for them to jump through and play hide-and-seek. Just make sure to file the sharp edges with sandpaper so that they don’t get hurt from playing. Who knows? Maybe one day the cardboard house will become your little one’s favorite playground! πŸ˜€

Also, if you have some old phone books, don’t throw them away! It’s good to keep some old phone books and get your friends to do the same thing. Your little furry friend will really love to tear through the pages and rip the phone books into shreds, so be sure to save some old phone books for them! πŸ˜‰

As you can see in the IGTV vid here, Whiskers really likes to play with the toilet paper roll. Ever since, we don’t see her chewing on our wooden furniture anymore now that the toilet paper roll has already made up for her boring wooden toy. The toilet paper rolls have proven time and time again that you don’t have to spend money to keep your little furry friend entertained. Sometimes, all it takes is a little creativity. πŸ˜‰

Pros:
– Cost effective
– Can be used as a foraging toy
– Safe to consume

Cons:
– Not infinite. Must be replaced if all is eaten up by rabbit

4. Metal ball with bell

https://www.instagram.com/p/CB3HszajML0/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link
The toy in question is seen in most of Whiskers’ IG vids and photos

This is a round-shaped metal cage for you to stuff with hay. As they eat, the cage will shake and cause the bell to make a satisfying “ding” sound for their ears to pick up. Every time Whiskers brushes past it, she would trigger the bell sound. The bell sound is quite relaxing for a rabbit and not as loud as music from the radio.

The metal ball cage needs to be replenished with hay frequently since they consume hay in large amounts every day because hay forms a large part of a rabbit’s diet. Whenever there is no more hay left in this ball, Whiskers will get annoyed and thump her feet at us to show her disapproval. She’s like a five-year-old human kid who is addicted to sugar and gets mad when he runs out of sweets so he demands his mom for more sweets. These little critters are so adorable even when they get mad at us. XD <3

It’s best to replenish it with hay when it’s left half-full as their rate of hay consumption per day is quite high. They’ll get dissatisfied when the metal ball of hay is less than half-full and thump their feet at you like an angry rabbit. After all, it’s hay that they should consume more of and not carrots, so take that Bugs Bunny! πŸ˜€

When they’re not eating, you can ring that little bell for them to signal that it’s playtime. Sometimes, when your eyes are not on them, they may even ring the bell to communicate something to you, or to just show you that they are awake and hyper and cannot wait for playtime! XD

Pros:
– Metal chain is strong enough to hold the ball up so that it won’t break when pulled
– Perfect for hay storage. Can possibly be a foraging toy. πŸ™‚
– Bell ringing is soft and ASMR. Most relaxing sound for a rabbit.

Cons:
– Not a suitable toy for chewing.

Conclusion

So here are the toys that we own which may be useful for your little one. What do you guys think of this list? Do you have any rabbit toys that are not listed here which can be fun and beneficial for your bunny? Share with us in the comments below! πŸ™‚
