Top 5 Photo Editing Tips

Our in-house designers are in charge of taking our beautiful newsletter photos. They work hard around the clock to ensure our pictures are of the highest quality.

Taking photos outdoors, or of your pet can be a tricky one. We don’t have the liberty of knowing when the sun will rise, or if your pet will stay still throughout the duration of the photoshoot. Check out their tips on photo editing that are guaranteed to help you achieve the best photos possible.

Let us know in the comments if any of these helped!

Designer Tip!:  You don’t have to use professional paid programs or have the know-how of a photographer to get nice photos. Simply use free apps like VSCO and tweak the adjustments accordingly to make your grid have a consistent look.

1. Crop for Better Composition

It is always a good habit to crop images to improve photo composition. Follow the rule of thirds or centralise the subject and ensure that there is an even amount of breathing space around the edges.

Cropping can also come in handy to remove any unsightly object in the background.

Designer Tip!: As a general rule, avoid cropping right at the edge of an object – either leave some space or crop beyond the edge.

2. Increase Exposure

If your picture isn’t taken under direct, maximum sunlight, chances are that you will need to brighten it. For a better sense of how bright it needs to be, visualise it against your social media feed. Imagine it placed against a white background and determine if it looks dull in comparison.

Designer Tip!: Do note that if more than 10% of the picture is pure white, increasing the image’s exposure may result in it appearing too bright, a.k.a overexposed.

3. Increase Saturation

To make your pictures more colourful and bold, it is advisable to increase saturation for that pop of colour. Especially for food-related posts where stronger coloured food can look more appetising.

4. Adjusting Temperature

We tend to easily overlook the temperature of a photo. Yet, it is important in maintaining the image’s balance. For example, if the photo is too warm (orange tones) or too cool (blue tones), it may look off-kilter. Simply adjust it back closer to the neutral white tone to provide a clearer and cleaner appearance.

Designer Tip!: Of course, if you prefer having a cool/warm undertone for your photos, you should opt for a preset instead of adjusting the temperature directly.

5. Make Use of Presets

Presets are here to make your life easier. Different presets accentuate different colours in the photo that makes it more aesthetically pleasing – so if you are going for a warmer feel, get the ones that have a rose or orange tinge. Simply browse the few free ones available in the app and see which ones are to your liking.

Designer Tip!: You can also copy pre-loved edits and paste them to your other photos for fuss-free consistent editing!

What do you think? Have you tried any of these tips before on your photos? Let us know if it works, or if they helped you gain a better understanding of how to improve the quality of your photos.

Say Goodbye to Buyer’s Remorse with Pawjourr Sampling!

Do you know that pet owners can redeem samples for their pet?

Sampling programs help owners locate and identify the best pet food variant suitable for their pets. It helps to save time and money, especially so for new pet owners who may be unfamiliar with their pet’s food preferences.

Each sampling program depends on their distributor – Here at Pawjourr, we offer free samples in exchange for reviews. This means that pet owners are able to redeem up to 5 FREE assorted samples within one transaction. After trying and reviewing them on our main site, their cart opens up once more and they can proceed with a new transaction.

We interviewed lexi.the.spitz to find out more about their experience with Pawjourr sampling program! Read on below to find out if we are the sampling program for you!

What is your main concern when it comes to providing for Lexi? (in terms of food etc)

Lexi truly enjoys eating all kinds of food! However, it is always reassuring to know that food or supplements are well-liked by her before committing or purchasing the full-sized product.

For grooming and cleaning products, it is important for us to check their effectiveness of it for Lexi’s current needs. My family has a really sensitive nose so the products have to be well-scented. We would also like to ensure she has no allergic reactions to the product.

Lastly, being more budget-conscious, I would only be willing to pay knowing that a product is really good for my dog. It also reduces wastage since you only buy products that you have confidence in!

How did you hear about Pawjourr’s Sampling system?

I was first introduced to Pawjourr through Instagram stories by various pet owners. They had just expanded their product redemptions from 3 to 5 items and had released a full-size sample product! After seeing several more stories about Pawjourr, it led me to sign up for their Pawjourr+ membership to give it a try.

How was the redemption process like?

It has been really simple and smooth since the beginning! The website is easily accessible on your phone or laptop, and you’d be spoilt for choice with the number of samples available! Each sample would include the ingredients used, where you could buy it and reviews from past user redemptions.

With a flat delivery fee, the item usually arrives at my doorstep within a few days.

Just for fun, I also did a 1-minute cart out challenge for Pawjourr’s sampling redemption! My record is currently at 40 seconds!

Double click to watch their 1-minute cart out challenge!

Awesome! We are impressed at the speed of your check out. What kind of Samples have you redeemed thus far?

We have redeemed all kinds of samples through Pawjourr – wet canned food, kibbles, dental chews, pee pad, waste bags, food toppers, single-ingredient treats, supplements, grooming and cleaning essentials.

Treats (Dental/Single-ingredient/General)

What appeals to you most about Pawjourr’s samples?

The sample sizes always come in ample quantities and are well-sealed! Even when it is repackaged, the team at Pawjourr labels it clearly.

There have been a few brands that have given wonderful full-sized products such as JJ E-Homes Pee Pad Pack, Chuku’s Kitchen, The Grateful Dog Ready Meals and OneV.

Treats are always Lexi’s favourites!

Samples are a great way to get to know your dog’s needs or wants. These can be exemplified by the incidents below.

Incident 1

We were looking for a new kibble to let Lexi try, and my mum was eyeing the Absolute Holistic Vegan Diet with Oats and Peas. For a dog who loves all kinds of food, this was the first time she outright rejected the kibble on its own. She would only begrudgingly eat the kibble when mixed with her other food. We were thankful that we did not commit to buying it!

Incident 2

With the release of supplements, it gave Lexi a chance to try all types ranging from chews, soft gels, powdered and tablets. Some tablets were too large and she simply would not swallow it even when mixed with food. For the smaller tablets, she could only eat it when hidden into her meals. After that experience, I would only purchase supplements in soft chew form.

Lexi’s supplement collection so far!

Through the positive and not-so-positive experiences, sampling allows pet owners to understand their dog’s likes and dislikes. It allows us as owners to make the best decision for them when purchasing new products.

Do you recommend sampling from Pawjourr? Why or why not?

We highly recommend everyone to try sampling from Pawjourr as it can benefit all kinds of pet owners! Whether you are just curious and would like to try more doggy products, or considering purchasing an item but aren’t sure whether your dog would like it – Pawjourr sampling helps resolve it!

Personally, it has been a lot of fun trying out different products, writing reviews and taking photos and videos of Lexi! It gives me a reason to spend time with her and capture precious moments. She definitely enjoys the fruits of her labour (aka. treats) too!

Since being with Pawjourr’s sampling programme, it has helped me to understand Lexi’s likes and dislikes. It introduced me as a first-time dog owner to the huge variety of products available to dogs! Most importantly, the products purchased after trying them through Pawjourr’s sampling programme are those that I have full confidence in. Say goodbye to buyer’s remorse! 😉

Have you since re-purchased any of the samples?

Yes, we have found a few brands or products that we enjoyed! There are many other samples the hooman would like to re-purchase, but it takes some time for one dog to go through her food and treats.

Here is the list of samples we eventually purchased:

Earthbath Oatmeal and Aloe Conditioner

The smell is really lovely, and Lexi kept sniffing it. The effects were immediately soft fur! As a bonus, the price is incredibly reasonable for a good amount.

Pet Natural’s of Vermont Daily Probiotic

I fell in love with the cute bone-like shape! I was honestly kind of disappointed when the full-size product from iHerb came in a rectangular shape instead. It has a stronger smell because it’s duck flavoured. Love how it has pre-and probiotics in one tiny chew!

Instinct Grain-free Wet Topper

Lexi really enjoyed the wet topper provided in the sample! When Pawjourr finally released the full-sized product on their Shopee shop, we decided to get a different kind under their limited ingredients series (lamb/turkey). It is individually packed to mix up your dog’s meals!

Chuku’s Kitchen Fresh Food

Eco-friendly packaging, customized meals based on each pup’s nutritional requirements, fresh and delicious fuss-free meals for your dog. Bought one subscription to help with Lexi’s post-spay healing. She was jumping like a kangaroo by the end of it!

Doggiebalm

Though the price-point is a little much for this hooman, I got these at a great deal during their clearance promotion. My favourite must-have item from Doggiebalm is the Natural Coconut Shampoo and Conditioner!

Natural Cologne Spritz

It left a great smell on my dog and clothes for a few days. Great to cover-up the “dog” smell or to freshen up in-between baths.

100% Natural Leave-in Conditioner

Bought it to assist during brushing sessions, as it helps to detangle her fur.

Natural Coconut Shampoo and Conditioner

A soap-free quick rinse-off formula that is similar to castile soap. It works great after walks or for weekly freshening up (especially during hot weather seasons) without drying out your dog’s hair.

NaturVet Tear Stain Supplement

I like supplements which look like treats since Lexi is extremely food motivated. Since trying the product, her tears will still occur (it’s not a miracle worker). However, we clean her eyes at least twice a day after meals and it prevents the staining.

Check out Pawjourr’s sampling program here to redeem your free samples 🙂

Aon Happy Tails Pet Insurance – Interview with Debby and Mocha

We always want the best for our pets.

The cost of pet ownership is high, and the cost of their medical bills even higher. When owning a pet, it is important for us to determine their physical health before engaging with surgeries. Our pets are unable to verbalise what they feel internally hence the multitudes of consultations, x-rays and blood tests before we are able to truly determine what ails them.

Last month, we heard from Jane and considered the benefits of pet insurance with her. This month, we decided to reach out to a paw-rent who has recently discovered Aon Happy Tails pet insurance and to garner a better understanding of what drew her to consider Happy Tails.

Hi there! Tell us more about Mocha, and your relationship with them!

We got Mocha at the end of 2018. My previous dog, Jack Russell had passed on six years before and my son had been bugging us to get a dog so we thought that it was finally time to get a new fur kid.  Mocha is very timid and shy, it took quite a while for her to actually get comfortable with us but once she did she started following me everywhere. During CB (Circuit Breaker 2020), we truly bonded with her and she became much more comfortable being playful with us. On trips to the dog park, she remains happy to explore the park and runs around even if she is not playing with other dogs.

How do you and Mocha spend time together this June holidays?

This June Holiday, there is not much we can do as we are still under phase 2A (ha) in Singapore. Yet, we still made time to go for walks in the parks. We also plan to bring her for a swim once we can meet up with more people.

How do you work to ensure the safety and well being of your furkid?

To ensure the safety and wellbeing of my furkid I always give her fresh good food, supplements, and bring her for regular walks so that she has enough exercise. She is not very active at home. Additionally, I always make sure to bring her to the vet if I notice anything amiss with her.

What concerns do you have when visiting the vet?

Just like humans visiting the doctors, our main concern when we visit the vet is the cost of the treatment.

Upon hearing this, we asked her about her knowledge of pet insurance. Aon Happy Tails in particular, helps to offset some of the costs incurred by medical procedures.

Have you heard of pet insurance prior to this conversation?

I have heard of pet insurance prior to this conversation! I heard about it from fellow fur parents who had signed up for pet insurance. I think it is important because it will help us cover the cost of any emergency treatment for our furkids.

How do the coverage plans offered by Aon Happy Tails alleviate your concerns (as mentioned above)?

I think the coverage is pretty good as I am very concerned about IVDD (Intervertebral Disc Disease) as a dachshund owner.

IVDD is a paralysis caused by back problems and short-legged dogs are quite prone to having it. Treatment may include rehabilitation or even surgery hence finding out that Aon Happy Tails covers surgery in their insurance plan made them quite appealing to me.

Will you be purchasing Aon Happy Tails in the foreseeable future?

Yes, I will!

Debby’s concerns regarding treatment costs and emergency medical procedures are extremely common amongst pet owners. Simplydollar states that medical costs are the most expensive aspect of owning a pet, with the average vet visit ranging from $50 to $400.

When it comes to sudden health complications, costs can go even higher, or double, to accommodate the needs of the pet.

Aon Happy Tails’ comprehensive insurance scheme prioritises supporting pet owners through sudden surgical procedures that may arise from new complications in their pet’s health. These complications do not include pre-existing conditions which have already been assessed by the vet.

Regardless, as Debby has aptly mentioned, pets are always at a growing risk of developing new conditions such as the IVDD (Intervertebral Disc Disease) for dogs. To ensure the safety of our pets, and to reduce wallet pains from unexpected medical costs – Pet insurance is a great way to keep us and our loved furkids safe and protected!

You can find out more about Aon Happy Tails pet insurance via their Instagram or Website.

Top 5 Phone Photography Tips

Hey there petfluencers, struggling to take nice photos?

Our in-house designers are here to help! Besides coming up with beautiful graphics, they also take excellent photos of our office pets for promotional and marketing purposes.

Not everyone has the luxury to own a camera, hence our designers have compiled a list of useful tips for you when it comes to phone photography. From getting the best composition to locating free and great sources of light- read on to find how you can improve the quality of your photos!

Let us know if you try them out!

No camera? No problem! With the advancement of technology these days, you too can take amazing photos with just your smartphone. Here are a few basic yet essential tips to start you off on your photography journey!

1. Use Sunlight!

Artificial Light Vs…

… Sunlight!!

Natural sunlight is the best source of lighting for photos, the only drawback is its inconsistency throughout the times of the day. Nonetheless, it is still the most important and easy factor to enhance your photography. Lighting determines the brightness/darkness, tone, mood and atmosphere of the photos you take. Use the sunlight to your advantage for the best ambience.

Designer Tip!: Light from behind the camera pointing directly on the subject will give flat lighting and cause a shadow to fall in the background. Using lighting from the side will produce a more interesting effect on the images taken.

P.S Try taking your photos during Golden Hour, commonly occurring around 5pm!

2. Composition Using Gridlines

Composition is another basic and essential aspect of photography.

Utilise your mobile phone camera’s gridlines that can help you to balance or centralise your shots. An easy guide would be to follow the Rule of Thirds; where an image is divided into three parts both horizontally and vertically via two lines each.

Designer Tip!: Placing the subject at any of the areas along the lines would generally achieve a balanced look, especially the sections where the lines intersect.

3. Take Note of Negative Space

Negative spaces refers to the area in the picture that is not the subject.

Subject should not be taking up all the space in the photo. Be generous with the negative space around the subject to help the subject stand out more. It will also help to provide breathing room for the viewer.

4. Play with Different Perspectives

The most common angles to take a photo are from the top or from the front. Maximise your angle to add variety to your photos. Each perspective has their own merits and styles, so have fun experimenting which works better for the particular subject.

Do you prefer to take your photos top down in a 2D Flatlay position…

… or with a 3D Front View?

Designer Tip!: You can add depth by having objects in front or behind the subject that will give the viewer a sense of spatial awareness within the picture.

5. Lastly, Remember to Edit your Photos!

The truth about photography is that most things just don’t look that good in real life. There’s where photo editing comes in handy. Many people underestimate the power of photo edits – even the most basic edits like cropping and brightening can turn a bad photo into a good one!

With a smartphone, edits are made easier with the help of several simple and free apps. Sometimes, you may even just edit the photograph on Instagram itself and it seriously makes such a big difference!

The Rise of Pet Marketing

Pet marketing is taking over the pet industry!

Since the rise of social media influencers in 2006, more and more personalities have emerged to vie for their chance at starting a career as an influencer.

The most unexpected contender? Your pets!

Pet Parenting

COVID-19 lockdowns have led to a rise in pet ownership. Many find themselves with ample time at their disposal, and as such, has taken the opportunity to fill their time by pampering and raising furkids of their own. As such, the total pet revenue growth has grown to 63% since COVID-19 (commonthreadco, 2021)

The rise in pet ownership has also led to a demand for pet parenting. Many new pet owners scour the internet for useful insight and advice from pre-existing pet owners.

As such, pet influencers who utilise their platform to endorse pre-loved Brands or to provide tips into pet parenting are a hot spot for these new paw-rents. Many new paw-rents look up to these pet influencers and are likely to interact with their content in hopes of discovering more about their furkids.

Marketing for Brands?!

However, that’s not all!

Pet influencers are not limited to the pet industry alone hence the term pet marketing.

Under pet marketing, every day (non-pet related) Brands can utilise the demand for these cute and fluffy animals in their product releases or marketing campaigns.

Most notably, makeup brand Perfect Diary worked with Li Jiaqi and his ‘insta-famous’ dog Never to promote their palette collaborations with the Discovery Channel.

Their marketing tactic was a massive success– garnering 85,000 monthly sales for the palettes, 156,000 pre-sale orders and most importantly, a trending hashtag “Li Jiaqi Never Eyepalette”  (JingDaily, 2020).

Their success owes to the Brand’s strategic and successful partnership with Never. Using the dog’s cute image garnered excitement over their eye palettes. Choosing to add a fluffy and cute twist to their promotional material was also an innovative way to engage the beauty industry– which is heavily populated with human models.

How can I Use Pet Marketing?

Working with Pet Marketing does require you to be strategic.

For example, Mercedes Benz worked with @loki, a pet influencer known for travelling the world with his owner. His love for travel and spontaneous road trip drives made Mercedes Benz a relevant Brand to collaborate with. Through these stories of travel, the efficiency of the vehicle is highlighted upon. As such, engaging via pet stories might be a beneficial way for you to partake in Pet Marketing.

However, you can also use Pet Marketing to boost the ethical image of your company. The Body Shop uses Pet Marketing to promote its company’s belief in non-animal tested products.

Additionally, you can also consider Dyson’s collaboration with pet influencers to promote their Dyson Cyclone V10 vacuums. They related to the pet owner struggle of having to clean up after your pet– such as the shedding of fur or ransacking of the house to showcase the Vacuum’s efficiency in cleaning up after such messes.

Regardless, there’s always a way for those brave enough to try.

Whether you are a Brand or a consumer, these cute animals are guaranteed to grip and entice your heart!

How do I Become a Pet Influencer?

A pet influencer refers to a famous dog, cat or other furry, or scaly animal whose presence is notable on social media. These “infurrencers” engage their pet owners and other interested audiences through cute and engaging posts. At times, they can be called upon to promote Brands that are outside of the pet industry– notable collaborations can include Mercedes Benz, The Body Shop and even makeup brand Urban Decay.

To define your fluffy friend as a pet influencer, they must first meet the criteria below:

  1. Own a social media account
  2. Actively Engage their Followers
  3. Take part in Brand Endorsements

Owning a Social Media Account

Though the popular choice of many influencers would be Instagram, it might be worthwhile to explore other alternatives such as TikTok and YouTube to amass a wider audience.

Each social media platform has its benefits, so take time to look closely into how the platform can best accommodate the type of content your pet would most likely perform best in.

For example, Instagram would be great for pet owners whose pets enjoy posing in front of the camera. If you have an active pet whose personality shines best through the moving image, Tiktok’s video-based social media platform might be the better choice for you!

At any rate, it’s always good to explore and try out each platform. You can even amass audiences via multiple platforms!

Engaging Your Followers

To maintain your pet’s image as a notable influencer, it is best to actively engage followers via content. As a pet owner, you are likely to have many images of your furry best friend (as we do!). Upload these images to keep their followers updated on what your pet is up to!

Keeping a strong relationship with your audience is a great way to maintain media engagement, and to ensure their followers are continually excited for what’s to come.

Brand Endorsements

Last but not least, securing an endorsement deal with Brands is a great way to reaffirm your pet’s position as a pet influencer.

Here at Pawjourr powered by The Woof Agency, we provide many job opportunities for pet owners to connect with international Brands. Our ever-growing list of Brand connections ensure that there is something for everyone– be it the Brands you already love, or to try something new, check out our list of campaigns here!

Do take note of the eligibility criteria before applying.

Alternatively, you can also join us as a pet influencer here!

To be a pet influencer is not an easy task. It requires patience on your part to continually upload and work hard to engage with your pet’s followers. Regardless, pet influencing also invites you to bond with your pet.

From taking pictures to trying out new snacks together, Pet influencing is a hobby (for some, a career!) that is rewarding to both you, and your adorable pet.

Reviewing Fish4Dogs – Yummy, Fuss-Free and Full of Protein Dog Treats

Many dog owners are looking for alternative sources of protein. Fish is a great easy to digest protein, as it boasts incredible benefits such as improving your dog’s eyesight, maintaining coat health and strengthening their joints and bones.

Fish4Dogs is fish-based dog food and dog treat brand. Founded by a community of dog owners who care deeply about their pet’s health, the brand promises products that are:

  • Contains Omega 3
  • Grain-free recipe
  • Assist with Puppy development
  • Maintain Skin and Coat support
  • Strengthen joint health
  • Regulate weight control

We recently worked with pet influencers and invited them to review Fish4Dogs’ selection. Each pet influencer received a customised selection of treats that catered to their dog’s needs.

We reached out to @dear.dexter and his owner, Shermaine, to hear their overall thoughts and comments on our Fish4Dogs campaign. Through this, we heard more about the Brand’s suitability for dogs, and how its individual variants catered to Dexter’s needs.

@dear.dexter poses with his selection of Fish4Dogs products

How did you find out about this campaign?

Shermaine: I found out about the campaign through TWA’s Instagram – They were looking for toy breed applicants so I applied to find out more!

Through the course of our campaign, we provided Fish4Dogs products that catered to the specific needs of dog size breeds. Fish4Dogs food and treats come in a variety of sizes to best accommodate the dietary needs of your pup.

What products did you receive from the campaign?

Shermaine: Dexter and I received Finest Salmon Complete Toy Breed Kibbles, Training Super Stars Sardine, and Training Freeze Dried Whitefish.

What was your dog’s favourite product and why?

Shermaine: Dexter appears to have enjoyed both the Training Superstars Sardine and Training Freeze-Dried Whitefish! The smell of the treats really got to him.

In order to assess the Brands’ palatability for dogs, we also reached out to inquire about Dexter’s mealtime experience with said treats.

With regards to the Salmon kibble, how did you find the size of the biscuits, and was it easy for your dog to eat it?

Shermaine: The size of the kibbles was just nice for him. They were similar to his usual kibbles hence it was not difficult to introduce the new kibbles to him.

With regards to the Training Super Stars Sardine and Training Freeze-Dried Whitefish, did your dog struggle to break off or chew said treats?

Shermaine: For Training Super Stars Sardine – it had a similar texture to kibble and was on the tougher side compared to the Training Freeze-Dried White Fish variant.

I fed him these treats as a reward for doing tricks. However, I soon realised that he was not chewing the treats properly due to his excitement.

As such, I made the decision to switch to the Freeze-dried White Fish which were a lot softer and easier to chew. It had more of a crispy texture. Dexter much prefers this variant. Each treat came in a bite-sized cube which was easy to feed. Very convenient for trick learning! The fish smell is quite strong however I do not really mind it.

@dear.dexter’s favourite treats– Fish4Dogs’ Training Freeze Dried Whitefish

Any additional observations with regards to Fish4Dogs products?

Shermaine: As mentioned, the products from Fish4Dogs has quite a strong smell. I don’t mind it – just got to wash my hands after feeding him the treats. Plus, I believe the smell helps me get dexter’s attention since he is a very easily distracted pup.

A definite highlight for me is that the Freeze-Dried Whitefish is made out of 100% white fish!!! Very happy that it contains no other weird ingredients – I can feed Dexter with peace of mind.

Through our campaigns, we hope that pet owners are better able to assess the taste and preference of their pets by trying out different types of foods. Hence, we also inquired about Shermaine’s decision to re-purchase the products after the campaign. This helps us gain a better understanding of our target audience- the dogs, and their interest in certain products.

Did you continue to purchase Fish4Dogs? What was the main reason why you decided to do so?

Shermaine: I’m really satisfied with the freeze-dried products so I continued to re-purchase those. In fact, I have 3 bottles with me on hand now.

The main few reasons I’m a convert is because:

  1. Dexter enjoys it.
  2. Small bite-size makes it easy to eat – I don’t have to worry about Dexter not chewing well or choking
  3. It comes in a convenient bottle.
  4. It’s affordable!! Plus, a bottle lasts me about a month or so because I don’t feed it to him every day. For pet owners that choose to feed regularly, it might not be that worth it.

Would you recommend this product to other pet owners?

Shermaine: Yes! Dexter absolutely loves it and he is a really fussy boy. I would also recommend it to other small dog owners. Moreover, the ingredient list is very wholesome!

We would like to thank Shermaine and Dexter for their invaluable input. Our Fish4Dogs campaign has since ended. However, do continue to check out other pet owners who participated in this campaign.

What is Pet Insurance? Why Do I Need It?

In one of our previous articles, we learnt about Jane and Milky’s experience with entropion. Entropion is a condition in which eyelids begin to roll inwards to the eyeball. It commonly affects animals who have thick eyelids, such as Chow Chows.

At the end of her anecdote, she wonders about Aon Happy Tails Insurance.

We sat down with Jane once more to discuss the benefits of pet insurance, and how owning one might have eased the financial burden she experienced.

Hi Jane. We understand that it’s been some time since Milky underwent his eye surgery. Can we ask how he’s doing now?

Jane: He is doing great now! However, the vet recommended undergoing 2-3 more surgeries as his eyelid will continue to drop as he grows older.

For now, we pay close attention to his tear stains, and/or if he starts scratching his eye excessively. It pains our heart to see him go through multiple surgeries at a young age.

I felt truly distressed reading about Milky’s experience with entropion. In your articles, you mentioned having to pay out lots of money to cover Milky’s consultations and surgeries. What was the total estimated bill incurred?

Jane: All in all, we spent close to $6,000. As it was our first time overcoming the entropion issue, we went for multiple vet consultations. We also had to cover for corrective surgery as the first one was unsuccessful. It was a very stressful period as we had to manage our emotions of watching our boy go through a difficult time. We also struggled to decide whether to go for the best treatment or the best financial decision.

Luckily, I had my husband with me hence we were able to share the burden, and alternate between roles (i.e. when he gets too emotional, I will try to be the logical one and make a decision from gathered data, and asking questions).

I’m so sorry to hear that. I hope your family feels much better now. Overall, what would you conclude was your biggest takeaway from this experience?

Jane: At the end of the article, I mentioned coming across Happy Tails pet insurance. I think having said pet insurance might have helped us A LOT. Compared to Western countries, local pet owners are unlikely to purchase insurance as they feel it might be more expensive in the long run.

Yet, I disagree! We spent a lot of money to ensure Milky’s health. If we had been insured, we might have been able to alleviate some of the costs incurred especially through insurance claims!

I see! Do you think owning pet insurance is important?

Jane: Owning pet insurance might be beneficial in the long run. I think a large stigma against pet insurance stems from the fact that there are no agents actively selling pet insurance. As a result, pet owners are afraid claims will be difficult, and/or there will be hidden clauses.

I would advise pet owners to make sure they read the T&Cs carefully to ensure that they fully understand the policy and what type of expenses can be claimed and what cannot be claimed. Also, check the duration given between each claim!

Thanks Jane!

Pet Insurance helps to protect the well-being of your fur friends. Like regular insurance, pet insurance covers medical fees incurred by vet visits.

In Singapore, options for pet insurance are rather limited. However, for pet owners who are largely concerned with the cost of medical bills- Happy Tails pet insurance offers a comprehensive medical plan. Their coverage extends beyond one-off accidents, going beyond to consider outgoing costs in medical care for injuries and illnesses.

Aon Happy Tails Pet Insurance promises to cover a wide range of fees and expenses such as:

  • Diagnostic tests such as x-rays and blood tests culminating in surgery
  • Surgery fees
  • Medications
  • Chemotherapy charges
  • Room and board charges
  • Post-surgery follow-up treatments
  • Surgical implants

This helps to alleviate some of the burden pet owners might experience with veterinary medical bills. Like Jane, many pet owners may undergo repeated consultations and surgeries to ensure the well-being of their pets. With pet insurance, such expenses can be covered and subsequently claimed. That way, you can keep your pets safe while reducing the pressure unexpected surgical procedures can have on your wallet.
