How customer reviews can help your brand

You probably read the title and hoped to find some answers. But before we dive into what you’re here for, let me ask you this: How many times have you looked up something and gone straight to the customer reviews section?

Exactly. In this day and age, online shopping is so convenient, and checking out is just a few clicks away. But before completing our purchase, we as consumers, feel the need to check out existing reviews — a second nature to us.

But why are customer reviews so important to us?

Boost credibility & social proof

It is true when they say “your reputation precedes you” because even tech giants like Apple and Microsoft have based their success on credibility. They are able to amass huge sales numbers, thanks to their ability to increase their social proof.

Product reviews are powerful testimonies that can be featured on all your marketing touchpoints, from your e-commerce platform to social media pages. So, why do consumers trust these reviews so much?

Because they are able to gain a greater insight into the business’s service and the brand’s product. 88% of potential consumers trust reviews as much as personal recommendations. After all, consumers are spoilt for choices, and these reviews serve as simple guidance that differentiates countless products and services out there.

Better understand your consumers

Reviews left behind by consumers provide insight into the overall customer experience and satisfaction. With access to such opinions, you’ll know what are the gaps in your service/product. And by implementing changes and improvements, your consumers will know that their voices are heard.

Therefore, collecting and analyzing consumer reviews can help improve your business, increase brand awareness, and more.

Generates more SEO & Improves SEO ranking

Customer reviews don’t just provide feedback and boost your brand’s credibility among consumers. They also generate more searches and sales. Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is all about what people are searching for online, the answers they’re seeking, and the products/services they need.

The words they’re using matter a lot to your brand. For example, if your business sells pet shampoo and you have great reviews, when someone searches for ‘great pet shampoo’, Google will bump up your website. With a better perspective of the product, potential consumers are more susceptible to take action after reading a positive review.

Pawjourr is here to help

By choosing Pawjourr, we bring you closer to the pet community. And this doesn’t just consist of well-known pet influencers. I’m talking about your day-to-day pet owners that would offer genuine insights into the brand’s product or service.

Followers of these creators also trust them more. However, these nano influencers are not just trustworthy, they are also much more excited and willing to work with you!

A US-based treat brand used Pawjourr to engage product testers for all their products. The goal? To gain insights among the pet community, and improve their formulations and packaging. Ultimately, they were able to increase sales by 70%!

Stay ahead with customer reviews

They’re a great way to grab the attention of potential customers. By failing to encourage them to leave reviews of their own, your band loses out as they’re simply a great avenue to increase sales.

Online customer reviews are here to stay. As the number of internet users grows, the importance of customer reviews will continue to grow as well.

How To Become A Pet Influencer Parent

We all click photos of our pets and pamper them with our love. Occasionally, we also post some cuteness-overloaded pictures for all to enjoy across social media platforms. Generally, images and videos of pets garner greater attention. Have you ever considered making a career using this natural attention that your pet receives?

Like all content creators, a pet influencer must have a recognizable personality. Our pets cannot talk to us, but they have quirks and traits that differentiate them from others. We should emphasize characteristics that make them weird, fun, and lovable. We all talk to our pets and imagine a reply they would give us in our heads. Put that out for the public to enjoy and create a consistent persona with our pet’s characteristics.

Grow Your Skills And Followers

A full-time job requires investment. Therefore, planning to be a pet influencer’s parent will require time, money, and dedication. Social media is filled with influencers coming up with new content ideas every other day. To stand out, we need to polish our skills and methods

Equipment

Tripods are important : Smartphones can take decent images and videos to get us started with our pet influencer account. But, to grow our social media account into a full-time hustle, pet videos and pictures must be high in quality. Therefore, we must invest in equipment like lights, cameras, tripods, and stabilizers.

Photography and Cinematography Skills

Proper equipment can only alleviate our images and videos to a certain extent. However, truly bringing the best out of our pets requires learning new skills and techniques. We should practice taking pictures of our pets and try to improve upon them.

Learn about the camera

Photography and cinematography courses are readily available across the internet, and they can help us understand the minute details that are too complicated for a casual hobbyist. For example, how to utilize natural and artificial light in our photos and videos, use tripods and stabilizers, the correct camera setting depending on the environment, etc.

Followers

With a unique personality, the proper equipment, and the necessary skills, we can start building a fanbase. Consistency is required when it comes to social media following. Utilizing photographs, videos, stories, shorts, reels, and live features of a platform is necessary to maintain consistency. To be consistent on instagram, you can use an Instagram reel maker to create posts quickly and easily.

Track activity and engagement

Using stories and comment sections, we should interact with the pages and accounts of different pet influencers to attract followers of our own. We can also use hashtags to increase the visibility of our pet influencer content.

Start Monetizing

Once we have built up a loyal fanbase of a considerable amount, say 10,000 followers, we should start looking for sponsors relevant to the page. Like all other businesses, influencer management is also dependent upon networking. Some brands might approach us themselves for paid promotions , but we should also prepare ourselves to pitch our business to the brands.

What to Pitch?

It is important to define clear goals and requirements. While brands usually engage in paid sponsorships, some might offer an exchange of products and/or services, and some offer a mixture. Receiving perks like a day at a pet spa or free access to toys and other goodies is lucrative. But we should always assess the worth of our page and quote a fair price.

Dog spa and grooming

Firstly, we should get a rough idea from other social media accounts. Brands that usually sponsor those accounts will be interested in our social media page.

Next, approaching brands via email is the best method. We should highlight to the sponsor that our pet regularly uses and loves their products. Mentioning the natural, strong growth of our pet influencer account is necessary. It will help us ask for a price that we think is fair.

And finally, we should stay in our domain. Reaching sponsors that are relevant to our pets is very important. Endorsing a dog skincare product if our pet is a Persian cat makes little sense.

Affiliate Programs

Affiliate marketing can help us earn a good amount of money. It is a referral program where a retailer pays us commissions for every purchase made using our affiliate link. We need to divert traffic from our social media page to the retailer site to earn money. For example, if we have a YouTube Petfluencer account, we can make youtube videos and put a link in description to promote affiliate products.

Affiliate merchant

Joining the correct affiliate merchant can be a tricky part. Some merchants provide better commissions, sales, and bonuses over others. We should do proper research before partnering with a merchant.

Promoting products we vouch for is a healthy way to gain the trust of our followers. But it is not always the case. We can promote products we have not personally used if we are assured of their quality. Moreover, affiliates and sponsored posts should be mandatorily disclosed, and we should follow all the guidelines.

Merch is Cute and Profitable

Thanks to our lovable pets’ unique personalities and fan following, merchandise will sell like hotcakes. Physical products with cute designs and photos of our pets can be sold at merchant websites that act like affiliates.

These merchants stock up on socks, shirts, t-shirts, hoodies, and even pillows. They are direct-to-print merchants that print a design only after an order is placed. Therefore, inventory management is a non-issue. They are the ones who build websites for our products; we only need to design and promote them. Instagram is a great platform to promote merchandise. To create some engaging stories with minimal effort, you can use some prebuilt Instagram story templates.

Pet merchandise

Wrapping Up

While being a pet influencer parent is a full-time job, it is one of the most rewarding and fun career paths. However, it can be difficult to make a living from it. Earnings come from sponsors, affiliates, and merch only after we have built our brand using interesting content. Interactive social media filters, apps, and tools like Instagram reel makers to produce content on the go. All this can be done alongside having fun with our pets!

Optimize your marketing budget and work with more influencers today.

Influencer marketing can be tricky and confusing – no doubt, there are many nuances, and compensation structure is one of them. We wrote an article that deep-dives into this topic here: compensating your influencers.

Can I simply pay a fixed rate to all of the influencers?

There are many factors which determine how much a content is worth: follower count, engagement rate or even non-quantifiable factors like talent, relevancy, production and quality of the content all plays a part.

Most marketers we know have an excel spreadsheet with the rates from all these influencers, comparing and negotiating the rates with each of them. It’s a full-time job managing anything more than 15 profiles, and that’s why platforms like Pawjourr exist to make it easy for you

Pawjourr helps you with all these … for free!

Yes you heard that right, we don’t charge you a monthly fee to use our platform.

Think of it like an e-wallet: you top-up $500. With each approved profile, we deduct their quoted rates from your wallet. This approach ensures that you don’t go over-budget, and easily compare rates from different influencers before confirmation.

You must be thinking “Well surely, I can do this easily with an excel sheet?’ Yes you can, but why do that when you can automate the process for free with us?

With Pawjourr, everything you need is on a consolidated dashboard:

  • Immediate access to a pool of freelancers excited about your job
  • Key insights to their profile (i.e. engagement, fake followers)
  • Pet’s demographics (useful for targeted campaigns e.g. senior dogs)
  • Compare rates amongst all interested applicants, and negotiate

So sit back and relax whilst the influencers pitch themselves to your brand! Best part? No subscription fees. No lock-in. No contracts. It’s 100% a plug and play model with zero commitments.

Here’s an example of how Tailspring leveraged Pawjourr to get some really great content and conversation going when they launch their goat milk products:

Tailspring Goat Milk Toppers

In April, Tailspring wanted to showcase their new line of goat milk products. With Pawjourr, they are able to:

  • Gain immediate access to a network of 15K+ influencers across US
  • Receive their first pitch within the first 24 hours
  • Focus on their core business activities, all whilst the campaign runs on the platform 24/7

Through the platform’s filtering system, Tailspring decided on 20 influencers, with fees ranging from $400 – $2000 for their launch campaign.

The appeal of a retainer model means they are able to work with profiles with varying influence to promote their products.

How you can get started

Pawjourr can help to make your campaign recruitment much more effective and efficient. Being able to control the budget down to each influencer means you can work with profiles with varying influence and do A/B testing to determine which group performs the best.

Working with influencers from different tiers also allows you to broaden your reach and check the boxes to a successful campaign. For example, working with macro-influencers gives you the reach you need because of their audience size, whilst working with micro-influencers allow their followers to follow their journey with a specific brand.

Ultimately, your campaign goals will decide how you can play around with influencer marketing.

Making (Sponsored) Videos

Congratulations on scoring that pet job! You’ve followed our tips on content creation for apps, content ideas to engage your audience, and now you’re confident to partner with a brand to promote their products. How will you be promoting them to your followers, though? There are a few methods, so let’s look at five ways to make sponsored videos!

On Brands

Character

More often than not, brands — and by extension, their products — carry a tone that they would like to convey. Pet toys brands, for instance, are warm and enthusiastic to mirror the joy your pawpal can get from playing with them. You can see a brand’s character through various methods, namely their website, social media accounts, and product packaging design, if any. If you have trouble finding the right tone to help promote the brand/product, it’s always good to start by emulating their character.

Credibility

Credibility can be split into two forms: heritage, and reviews. Brands and products that have stood the test of time and remained relevant are seen as reliable and trustworthy. Pet Lovers Centre, established in 1973, remains a household brand synonymous with pet ownership. For new brands that do not have the luxury of heritage, it’ll be better to look at their consumer reviews to promote them to your followers.

Benefits and Unique Selling Point (USP)

When looking at a product, service, or brand in its entirety, what draws consumers to purchase them are their benefits and USPs. Benefits tend to be physical and tangible, e.g. “X-Supplements are made with 100% natural ingredients and are perfectly healthy for your pawpal”. On the other hand, USPs can be tangible or intangible, e.g. “Be the hero your dog deserves”. Knowing these will help to influence if you want to do a Tactical Review or a Creative Integration.

Tactical Reviews

1. Product Testimonials

Product Testimonials take a straightforward approach to the promotion. Without going too deep into functions and technicalities, these videos are generally shorter and summarised so viewers can understand the benefits and visit the product site without scrolling away.

2. Product Breakdown

Centred on benefits and functions, product breakdowns are the most technical of the three. Product Breakdowns tend to be longer and more insightful, and aimed at your more interested followers who might have already heard of the products know more about the product. However, because of that, you might stand to lose out on casual followers who are just scrolling through their feed.

3. Product Demonstration

Product Demonstrations are the most engaging of the three. Let your pawpal try the product — be it toys or food — to give your followers a visual representation of how the product works. By showing more and telling less, viewers can immediately see the benefits and features in action, so it entices them to want to know more.

Creative Integration

4. Selling a concept

Instead of doing the direct approach and telling your followers what’s good about a product, you can do a conceptual video that shows your followers how this product changes your pawpal’s life. This works especially well when promoting an entire brand. Ruffwear’s “Becoming” video shows viewers the products for sale but talks about none of it. Instead, the narrator talks about their philosophy, mission, and vision. Similarly, you can film a sketch to show your pet will a transformed lifestyle thanks to this brand or product you are using.

5. Production, Process, BTS

Much better if you are advertising for your own new release of products, as the process is not something your partnered brand would show you. If you do decide to release your own products, say, home-baked pet treats, you could show a video of you choosing the ingredients (to indicate quality/freshness), the baking process (to emphasise it being homemade), and arrange the food on a nice set-up for presentation (allows followers to imagine how it could look for their pawpal).

Now that you know…

More often than not, the type of video you will make also depends on the requests of your partner when you take up pet jobs. However, for pet jobs with more creative freedom, you will have a better understanding of how you can promote the brand and its products to your followers!

Timeless Ideas To Kickstart Your TikTok Content

Welcome back to the fifth instalment of our TikTok feature! Today we are going to look at some content you can make with your pawpal, so you won’t run on empty in the ideas department!

Sounds

A lot of TikTok’s content can be defined by the sounds they use, as they easily set the tone for the video. If it’s a commonly used sound or even a sound from a well-known source, chances are you’ll be able to set up some expectations and hook them in. They’ll want to stay and see how the video ends!

Here are some common sounds that pawrents are using on their TikToks:

Holidays

Share how you celebrate the holidays with your pawpals! Holidays, National Events, and Celebrations are all over the calendar. Use this opportunity to share costumes, family practices, or just you and your furry friends enjoying some quality time together.

Vlogs

While all of TikTok is already in video format, you can use the app to share quirky traits about your pet and see if others may have similar experiences. TikTok’s community-driven functionality allows you to duet people’s prompts too, which creates a whole carousel of reactions.

@marleymalin

Let me know if you want a second part to this video! 😽💞 #catsoftiktok #foryou #fyp #catvids

♬ 아무노래 – ZICO

If you’re confident about your knowledge in pet care, or if you’re just enthusiastic about sharing your petcare routines on social media, you’ll be surprised how many people will appreciate it! Beyond entertainment, people do view TikTok as a platform to learn something new, so don’t be shy about sharing the knowledge and experiences you’ve had up till now!

Challenges

According to TikTok, cats love it when you brush their fur with a wet toothbrush; it supposedly reminds them of their mother. And did you know that if you play the iconic screech from the 1960 film “Psycho”, the sound will scare dogs?

It isn’t 100% accurate, but there’s only one way to find out — try it out with your pawpals! Challenges are quick, easy-to-make, and quirky content that you can make together. You’ve probably thought of doing some of these, but always passed it off as outrageous anyway!

Editor Showcase: VSCO

In our previous article, we covered four apps that you can use to edit your content for Instagram and TikTok. So today, I will be showing a quick demonstration of my favourite editing app, VSCO. While the app’s roots were grounded in photo-editing at first, VSCO has been steadily upgrading itself to keep up with Instagram’s new features. As of 2020, the app is now able to record and edit videos — along with various video effects and capture modes — through its “F X” feature.

VSCO is a free-to-download editing app with powerful basic presets for photos. However, by subscribing to the app’s membership (either monthly/annual), you will gain access to its limited-time presets, premium video effects, and more. The app also detracts from the whimsical stickers and animations of other photo-editing apps, instead, doubling down on VSCO’s thematic style: Emulating the look of film and old cameras.

Bright & Clean / S Series

The S series emphasises skin tones and works well with portraits. A favourite of mine, the series balances colour contrasts to give photos a softer, more natural look.

For this photo, I reduced the shadows to take attention away from the background, as well as to highlight ZaiZai’s white fur. I also bumped up the temperature and saturation to give his tongue a healthy pinkish tone.

Analog / A Series

The A Series, inspired by analogue film, beautifully enhances the colour of your photos with their bright mid-tones and brighter highlights. I tend to use presets from the A Series (among many others) for outdoor photos.

Momo has a clean white coat with beautiful brown patches. By increasing the contrast and reducing the shadows, his white and golden brown fur is accentuated. On top of that, the silver lining that forms when the sunlight shone behind is further amplified to create a pristine silhouette.

Legacy Collection

VSCO’s Legacy collection is a staple for the brand, being the original presets offered on the app. From black-and-white filters to washed-up colours, the Legacy collection has something for every occasion.

Because the floor behind ZaiZai is less detailed, there are fewer elements to take attention away from him. I reduced the shadows and increased the exposure to give his coat a softer appearance, rather than as individual strands of hair. The increased saturation and exposure also revealed ZaiZai’s chestnut-brown eyes, which were dull and hard to spot in the original.

Isle of Dogs

Wes Anderson’s iconic art direction in Isle of Dogs gave rise to a unique set of limited-time filters, each bringing out the rusty red-and-yellow world of Megasaki to your photos.

To give Kopi’s summertime fun more energy, I strengthened the blues of the pool and increased the tint to turn the greenish background closer to its original white colour. By overexposing the carpet, the details on the strands are lost so our eyes don’t wander below her leash.

Useful Links

VSCO has many other presets worth exploring, that will definitely help to beautify your already cute pawpals! Not very sure how to begin your pet photography journey? Check out these links below:

Make your pawpals even prettier with these editing apps

TikTok and Instagram may have their own editing features, but we always crave more. Third-party apps have come a long way to make the editing process much easier, and more comprehensive than what the original apps already do. There are many apps out there that can do the job, so let’s narrow down two apps per platform to begin your content creation journey.

VSCO

Free to download (Membership at SGD 11.48 / month)

VSCO is a place where expression matters the most. The app offers a wide range of presents, which can be adjusted to varying looks and finishes similar to classic rolls of film. VSCO also recommends presets based on the photo you select.

Pros

  • Adjustable filter strength
  • Lookbook to preview downloading new filter packs
  • Free to download

Cons

  • No touch-up features
  • No stickers, animations

Lightroom

Free to download (Pro at SGD 6.98 / month)

The industry standard for photographers on their phones everywhere. While Adobe Lightroom does not have presents, its extensive fine adjustment features let you bring out the full potential in your photos. If you’re not sure how to edit your photos, you can use Lightroom’s presets for a one-stop process. Alternatively, if you’ve used it long enough you can save your edits as presets for future photos too!

Pros

  • Detailed adjustment settings
  • Tutorials to guide you through editing process

Cons

  • Extensive features locked by paywall
  • No stickers, animations
  • Comprehensive features might confuse newcomers

CapCut

Free to download (Pro at SGD 5.98 / month)

Developed by Bytedance, CapCut is a video editor that seems tailored to complement TikTok. CapCut features exclusive copyright songs, trending stickers, and custom TikTok fonts. With these in your kit, you’ll be able to make your TikTok videos stand out!

Pros

  • User-friendly interface
  • Huge library of songs
  • Directly Exports to TikTok

Cons

  • Can only upload one video per project
  • Might lag when editing larger videos

InShot

Free to download (Pro at SGD 5.98 / month)

InShot is a popular video editing app for quit editing features. For first-time users, its well-categorised library of stickers, tags, music, and sound effects makes the app inviting and easy to understand. If that isn’t enough, InShot also comes with pre-loaded aspect ratios so you can edit your videos to suit the right platform!

Pros

  • Stitch videos together
  • Fast and simple editing features
  • Free to download

Cons

  • No video overlay functionality (e.g. Duet, React, etc. need to be recorded first)

Now that you know…

Editing doesn’t have to be done on Instagram and TikTok. Granted it’s convenient, but there are apps out there with better features. Later this week, we’ll be giving you an editor showcase. See for yourself how your pawpals can look after putting them through VSCO!

8. kyubi.ninetales

Fall in love with the magic of preparation and creativity when you look through Kyubi’s (@kyubi.ninetales) photos. Kyubi’s hooman takes photo shoots to the next level by making thematic photos out of various props and costumes, even making their own props like ribbons out of lottery tickets.

9. freyastormbreaker

Freya and Burger (@freyastormbreaker) are two tiny guardians with big hearts. The captions in their posts reveal a beautiful narrative (as interpreted by their hooman) and give their followers a peek into what makes these two puppers tick.

10. fuzziepals_

Two paws are better than one; double the trouble and still just as fun. Rigel and Gale (@fuzziepals_) play to their hearts’ content and cuddle with their hooman all day. Their open affection for each other can warm anyone’s heart on a cold day.

Feeling the spark yet?

Once you’ve ironed out the content that works best for your pawpal, get to creating! One day, you’ll be featured as a recommended Pawpal to follow on Instagram too!

How to Improve Videos and Views on TikTok

Continuing from our Tip-Top TikTok Tips, Part 4 of our TikTok introduction will touch on three more tips that will improve your videos. Make your videos that much more polished and — by extension — more likely to be viewed by others on TikTok with these tips.

Plan Your Videos First

While some viral TikToks are born from absolute spontaneity, not everyone will have such an incredible stroke of luck. The most consistent way to make a good TikTok video is to first plan what you’re going to say and do.

Long, unnecessary pauses and stammering in a video are huge turn-offs for viewers. And if you don’t have a clear image of what your sketch is about, you will end up doing retakes and end up feeling like “it’s not what I’m looking for” without knowing what your video is supposed to look like. Instead, show that you know what you’re doing; plan how your sketch will look from scene to scene. Not only will it help you, but it’ll also help your pawpal too. Pets may not have as much attention span to do repeated takes for a photo (let alone a video) and are likely to lose interest. Cats are especially temperamental, and won’t be as willing to entertain you if you test their patience for too long.

Practise, Practise, Practise

If you see a pawsome #PetTok out there and think, “No way my pawpal can do that, it’s too complicated!”, don’t beat yourself up about it. Chances are this Pet TikTok did not record their video in one take anyway. Especially where our furry friends are concerned, no video is perfect on the first take. Rehearse with yourself first how you will be carrying it out, then train your pawpal to do the thing.

@scottyhubs

On the other hand, candid TikTok challenges that you do with your pawpal do just as well when it’s not rehearsed. That’s because candid TikToks are supposed to show off their honest reactions. So bloopers and bad takes won’t seem like such a bad thing now, do they?

@betty_and bean

Your Pet Isn’t Mute, They Just Can’t Speak Hooman

But wouldn’t it be neat if they did? Save for maybe pet whisperers, pet owners all over the world scratch heads at the age-old question: What is on your pawpal’s mind? Make your pet relatable not only to other furry friends, but also to humans! Capture their emotions with human vocabulary and caption them in the video. On TikTok you can go even further and give your pawpal and audible voice with the Voiceover function. Alternatively, you can use the text-to-speech feature to have a computer-generated narration for your captions.

@hammyandolivia

Now that you know…

It’s important to stress that TikTok is wildly experimental. However, it also means you will be seeing content of all levels of polished, organic or otherwise. As a pet influencer, it is recommended to produce content that is more put-together, and spend more time rehearsing to minimise retakes. Look forward to seeing your videos on our For You page!
